Battle for the Bottom.

Remember about three years ago, when we were in CUSA, I kept everyone informed about the race between USM and MTSU for the bottom in basketball? Well, now we have a football race for SB bottom of the barrel. We are going head-to-head with our favorite, Troy. Presently Troy has the honor of being the scum of the conference. Troy has the easier schedule for the rest of the season but it may go down to the head to head with them. ASU will be an important game for us.

Let's talk about this loss to ULM

We all saw 2 teams with pretty equal talent but the gulf in coaching was the size of the Grand Canyon. ULM was well coached, knows who they are on offense and defense, and plays as a team. USM is poorly coached, poorly disciplined, and has no leadership.

The offense started well, but that 3rd down call at the goal line was dumb. Just sneak it or rum the ball. The OL was actually getting a decent push on that drive. It went downhill from there.

Defense got tired again, missed too many tackles, and all the personal fouls at the end was embarrassing. Too much talent to play this weak and poorly.

Once again, just a pathetic effort from all involved. It's the same story difference chapter. Arky State comes to town and I am sure they are excited about playing this bunch.

Teams usually take the identity of their HC. Will actually believes he has a good team, but this team, like their HC, looks at things that didn't happen not things they should do. Tired of hearing "if this happens" or "we were so close." No you weren't and those things never happen. Excuses create apathy.

It's time to discuss coaching.....

I was hoping to not have to go through this in year 4 of the Hall era, but here we are....

1. When a team is struggling and been been embarrassed against every FBS opponent to date, you practice more than twice on your off week. Sorry, the staff nor team had deserved an easy week. Especially after the JSU practice week (when the staff decided to change and get harder on the players, that went about as well as a turd in a punch bowl). You don't have to practice then tuff and hard on a bye week, but getting extra practices for a rival is a gift, use that week to prepare extra. Totally lost opportunity there....

2. Both new coordinators haven't been worth their weight in salt. Offense is atrocious and the defense is softer than Charmin. How many times have wee seen DL pushed 3 to 4 yards by an opposing RB after they are blown off the ball? ULALA did it all game long. The OL is a poor as it has always been. If I were a QB at USM I would go take a Loyd's of London insurance policy out on my throwing arm. We are at what? 17 QB taking snaps
In 4 years. The odds are not in their favor.

3. Discipline on this team is poor. How many stupid personal fouls or bone headed decisions have we seen in 4 years? Even if it is an acting job by the opposition, you should never put yourself in that position for them to flop and act to get that flag.

4. We only got 7 more games of this to go through and it is done. There will be a new coach for USM at the end of the season.

This is crazy!

We are still in it, but the thread is getting thin.

Beating ULM will go a long way toward continuing our pursuit of a bowl. Of the games we have left, we can only lose two. I am thinking JMU and Texas State. The rest are winnable. Last year, we didn't reach our peak until the last of the season. ULM is coming off the biggest win in years, and USM at +6 is a betting dream. I would encourage USM folks in Vicksburg, Natchez, South Delta, and Jackson to make that easy trip to Monroe. Please support the EAGLES! A win is most likely. And please stop talking about firing the coach.
