I feel bad for all of the seniors

They have worked their tails off to put us back on top, and were preparing to go out with a bang in 2016 with the potential to make a run at the access bowl. Instead, their coach bailed on them and hung them out to dry. One of the saddest things about EJ was watching guys like Jamie Collins and Tracy Lampley end their Southern Miss careers that way. I hope and pray that Mullens, Antoine, Reed, and the rest don't suffer the same fate.

Oplnion and observations

Let me start by saying I have no clue as to the coaching retention decisions. We will see. I will support our eagles no matter what as I have always. Let me say this about message boards. First, Lanny does a great job on ours, evident by how invested everyone is. Good for us. I like dialogue. That being said I see the same machinations on our board as the board my wife participates in and runs for Game of Thrones. You would not believe the arguments that take place over fictional characters. Now add the reality of the decisions of 17 year olds and the competition for attention we have for FBS. I would ask that we treat each other with civility and wait for facts to come out. Last I saw Eloss was gone and we are transitioning. We have great players on the team but need to better locally with high schoolers and a few jucos.

Everyone cares and expresses their concerns. No need to call out someone; just use the old motto "we will see".

Update

A source close to the situation has told me the following.

David Duggan and John Wozniak had meetings with Hopson today. It appears they went well, both are scheduled for extended discussions with him tomorrow.

I know you can read anything into that and many will so I'll join in...I take that as a positive weather it ends up being that way or not I do not know.

It appears that Pollard has been retained, but nothing official.

I am also hearing that Luke Meadows is "probably" ok....

That's what I know at this point.

Willie Simmons

During his 1 season as offensive coordinator was good.He was promoted to Offensive Coordinator. At the age of 30, he was one of the youngest coordinators at the FBS level. During his time as Offensive Coordinator, the Blue Raiders were ranked 20th nationally in Total Offense, while leading the Sun Belt Conference in Total Offense, Rushing Offense, and Third Down Conversion Percentage, and ranking second in Passing Offense.

Unfortunately for him the Blue Raiders finished 2-10 and under pressure from alumni Rick Stockstill had to make some changes. Coach Simmons and their Defensive Coordinator was his fall guys.

MY CONCERNS....

I will be the first to admit I had hoped most of our staff would have stayed in place. It seems like several will not. From the coaches names that have been mentioned my concern is the direction their careers have taken. They have not been upward. They seem to have been moving in a backwards direction. I am not saying they wont be great coaches with hopefully great careers and leave USM for bigger and better positions down the road, but just WORRIED. I think many of us are. Not "knowing" what positions these guys will be filling on our staff leaves many more questions than answers and lots of speculation. Please everyone lets try and withhold judgement until statements are made and positions are announced. Lets please stop bashing each other for voicing either concerns or support. Take a deep breath step away from the key board and remember none of us know everything and all of us LOVE USM.....SMTTT

I'm most concerned with screwing w/ our Offense

No one can question the fact that our Offense worked tremendously last year. Systematic. The notion of our kids who have worked their assess off for the last three years to have to learn a new system with new terminology, etc. concerns me greatly. I have absolutely no idea if this will be the case, but I just hate to see "what could have been", by keeping the same exact Offense in place, go down the tubes...

I'm hoping and will await the final outcome.

I feel a little more optimistic on the D side of the ball that a new coach and tweaked system is something our guys can and will handle just fine. I'm less concerned about change on that side of the ball.
