Another reason to be glad we’re out of Conference USA

CUSA just added Kennesaw State. To put this in perspective, for those of us who grew up in the Kennesaw/a Marietta area in the 90s and maybe early 2000s, “Can you spell Kennesaw?” was a threat parents around here would use against their children who went away for college. It had two similar meanings. One was “I’m going to bring you home where I can keep an eye on you if you don’t shape up” and the other was “I know how much you look down on Kennesaw State as an institution and I’m going to punish you by making you transfer there if you don’t get your act together.” The school’s football stadium was originally built for a now defunct professional women’s soccer team and doesn’t have a huge amount of space to grow

Favre & Welfare Funds

Lots of national news regarding the situation with Favre and the Volleyball Facility on campus. Some articles have gone as far as using stealing welfare money to pay for the venue and to Favre. Obviously reports go for the dramatic and not just base it on facts and what was known by Favre at the time. But the bottom line is that Favre and USM (via the Volleyball venue) have really gotten some bad press on a national level. Favre paid back the $1.1 million. Should the USM foundation pay back the $4 million for the venue in order to get in front of the news? Should Favre step up and pay the $4 million as he's the one that got us into this mess? Even saw an article comparing the issues and Jackson and what those funds would do to help poor people survive to what's been misspent. The Text that Favre sent regarding "can we keep this from the media" doesn't have a good look at all. Obviously the guy that was fired who originally investigated is driving a lot of these stories as he's been a source for many news agency. I think it may be time to just pay back the money, explain that we didn't know the source and try to save some negative press. NBC news has had w prime news stories on this with Southern Miss plastered in the headlines with Favre. Thoughts?

All on Hall

It saddens me to say this, but Hall is not a bench coach. How often will he run Gore into a defense that knows our plays? This game tells me a lot. You can't win a game just using three offensive players. Give to Gore into the middle of the line or pass to Brownlee, and that was it. Two weeks to prepare, and you can't come up with some imaginative plays? The OL is not good but blocking guys that know what you will run is a hard job. Where were Willis and the other super-backs? We won two games using the SB exclusively, and now we don't use it at all. We have some talented offensive players, but we don't use them. This game was the worst offensive game I have ever seen at USM.

Freshman or not, you pull him when a QB throws three interceptions that were his fault. Confidence loss or not. Wilke fumbles too many times, can not run the ball, and throws a wobbly pass that is easy to pick off. He is not getting better with each practice. He is not the future QB, but McCormick is. The sooner Hall realizes this, the better we will be. He is a stubborn coach.

Clawedballs stated before the Liberty game, their QB would throw for 400 yards against our secondary. Our strong point was absolutely ripped last night. It was hard to watch. Our defensive line let down at the end of the game.

So much for the revenge factor. The offensive play calling and plays have got to change. All on Hall.

Thoughts on loss at Troy

Let's just be honest about this loss:

1. Wilcke looked like a Fr QB. Those first 2 picks were not his fault, but his last 2 TO were his fault. His throws were all over the place in the 2nd half. He wasn't helped by his OL which leads me to.....
2. The OL got whipped all night. I hot tired of watching both Tackles whiff in pass protection and then turning around and watching. Can't run the ball of the pulling Guard and Tackle can't get through the playside wash. Gore Jr was having to wait on OL to clear. That can't happen at this point.
3. Guys ths offense is what it is. The Golden Eagles didn't run Tulane off the field. In fact Tulane outgained USM by almost 150 yards. This group has to score and Hall is the play caller.
4. You can't rely on a defensive or special teams touchdown every game. If you are doing that then you will lose a lot more games than you win.
5. Better win homecoming or 6 wins and a bowl game will not happen.
6. Stop forcing the ball to Brownlee and Gore Jr. There are other guys on the team. Caston, Jones, and DeMo are really good at WR. Dean needs more touches.

Really disappointing performance last night. Hall needs figure it out. We have heard how it is his fault so now it is time to fix it. He calls the plays it is up to him at this point.
