A few changes to the lineup

Due to an extremely bad forecast for the entire region for Friday, there will now be a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. Marshall is probably the best softball team in the conference, even better than Louisiana Lafayette.

The team is now 12-7, 1-2 in SBC play. I went back and watched this weekend's series. Yes, at times there are 3 or 4 guys in the lineup who are at or near the Mendoza line (sub .200 BA), and pitching is Jekyll and Hyde. However, the one thing I noticed, even in the wins, there is no consistency at the plate. When I can watch a game live and know what the other team's pitches are to certain batters, the guys must notice too. At one point Sarge saw 5 straight curves in a bat and only 1 was an actual strike. When pitching knows they have to be perfect, they lose their looseness and press and start trying to aim and pitch perfect. Asking upperclassmen to do that is tough but this staff is young. They will get better, but until some guys figure out their approach at the plate, pitchers are going to press. That's my 2 cents, would love to know your thoughts....

This will be my last post to this forum. One because, well, you guys mostly care about the program’s succeeding which is to be expected. Secondly, until this administration and school finds coaches worth a shit or is willing to put the time in to find them this softball program doesn’t stand a chance at success. You can’t expect to hire a Coach with 11 years at a program that never even made it to a conference tournament. That tells me… as a coach you can’t and don’t know how to develop players. An Assistant coach who has never been a coach and pulling hitting info off of Twitter to implement and change hitting every week.

This is the rest of my thoughts.

I really have no words. Honestly, I’m going to be frank. You have two pitchers that can’t throw overhand to the first baseman. How the hell do you make it to the college level and not know how to throw overhand as a pitcher?!? You have Coaches that aren’t having the 1st baseman crash on bunts in hopes to turn a double play and “give up” something to “gain” something that we never gain. We got beat by Ole Miss because they scouted that! One of our GA’s even told our coaches she walked in on Ole Miss scouting us and saying that very thing. These teams KNOW two of our pitchers can’t field or throw to first base and our 1st baseman is not crashing. They small ball us knowing that and win games knowing this. Yet, the coaches make no adjustment to it.

A catcher who has a 25% throw out rate BEFORE CONFERNCE PLAY …Out of 20 runners who have attempted to steal only 5 has been thrown out. Not to mention the pass balls that have allowed runs come in and cost games when offense is not performing. Let’s talk about the catcher refusing to even play first base, But because she hits like a boss in non conference and the Coaches are not willing to give her bat up she’s stays behind the plate. However, looking at stats the past three years once Conference starts her BA plummets. At what point do you give the other catcher a shot behind the plate during conference?!? When wins/losses matter?

We have 3 pitchers, one that is never utilized and is given little to no chance on the mound but yet cleans up the messes from the ”Aces.”

This isn’t about a parent ranting because her daughter isn’t given playing time. My daughter has been a starter damn near every game since she started her career at USM. This is about dumb ass decisions from Coaches that aren’t qualified to be here and their inability to see patterns and making changes on the weakness of the team.

The Coaches deserve the losses. They need to wake up and start changing it up defense and offense wise. Until they do, this program is doomed.

Paetow is still not starting. The Golden Eagles have won 4 in a row without him in the lineup.
