Southern Miss baseball is 3 - 0, just like the 2015 season...

For some reason unknown to me other than I have read it recently, as I do every Christmas season an excerpt from "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens comes to mind; "Before I draw nearer to that stone to which you point," said Scrooge, "answer me one question. Are these the shadows of the things that Will be, or are they shadows of things that May be, only?" Still the Ghost pointed downward to the grave by which it stood. "Men's courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead," said Scrooge. "But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change. Say it is thus with what you show me." Perhaps Coach Berry has been visited by the spirits of baseball's past, present, and future and the course of recent seasons will be departed from. Or perhaps there will be no attempt to depart from the present course and the players will just hit a lot of home runs this season. Either way is fine with me as long as the end result is an NCAA tournament bid.

Is it safe to come out??

Too old for all the drama based on poster created narratives. Thankfully Lanny was putting up some good recruiting info, so that provided an escape for our reading enjoyment. Glad to see our new coach hit the ground running. If J Hop can continue the success from last season and combine great recruiting I think we are back to the days of pondering the if's of making the preseason polls, budgeting for bowl trips and having to update the team trailer with all the CUSA Championship dates.

I know some want that move up into the elite level on a regular bases. But I don't think our small fan base nor budget will enable us that opportunity. But we do have the opportunity to win championships, finish in the top 25 programs on a consistent bases and hopefully get a premier bowl game. Not to try and create controversy but the Bower years during the winning and bowl days were not only fun but gave us the hope of what might be. There is something to be said about consistency....yep, it can seem boring. But we've witnesses what losing regularly is like. Between the two....I'd take boring all day long.

Southern Miss spirit is getting around!

Received a call from a friend who lives in Houston, and a big Rice fan. He and the wife want to come visit in October and go to the Southern Miss/ Rice game. He saw our team win over Rice last year, was very impressed and has been hearing about our stadium, facilities and new coach hire. Sometimes I forget about the tradition and greatness of Southern Miss and am quick to complain about decisions made that I don't agree with. It's good to get a reminder that our competitors have a high opinion of our school and our sports tradition, even the schools up north (over a few beers). I need to remember that next time when I start selling my school short.
