Great person and USM supporter died last night

Some of you may know Neil Honan from Hazlehurst.
Died last night after fighting severe heart disease for several years.
Long time EC member and season ticket holder until he got in horrible health.
Great family man, person, friend.

For those of you who pray, please add his family to your prayer list.
Thanks

The anxiety level of many of us USM fans has lowered by leaps and bounds.....

since last weekend. If some of us had seen a a Dr. about it(me included), the pharmacy would have made a killing on Ativan. For many of us, me included, we would panic on the many false rumors that were going around. Overall, I think we are in great shape. Wish a coach or two had made the cut, but we've got Woz and Woodfin headed back and imo, that's big, not counting the fact that we picked up some good athletes and avoided, what could have been a disaster, recruiting wise. Woodfin agrees to extension (Our Strength and Conditioning Coach)

Hattiesburg American

***This is excellent news indeed :

Woodfin agrees to extension
Southern Miss strength and conditioning coach Zac Woodfin joined the Golden Eagles just more than a year ago.

On Wednesday afternoon, athletic director Bill McGillis announced before a small group of fans at the school's National Signing Day social event that he and Woodfin reached an agreement that will keep the former UAB linebacker at Southern Miss at least two more years.

"I'm obviously very honored," Woodfin said. "And I want to thank all of our leadership from Mr. McGillis to president (Rodney) Bennett and our new head coach, coach Hopson. Just super excited about the direction of our program. It was something that was a no-brainer for me to want to be here and be a part of what coach Hop and our staff is going to do."

Coaching changes by Hopson

Southern Miss: Sources tell FootballScoop that Jay Hopson has informed Jon Williams (assistant head coach / player personnel), Justin Roberts (defensive line) and Dayne Brown (director of recruiting / player development) that they will not be retained. Additional meetings with coaches are ongoing. Tough spot for everyone involved.

Also:
Southern Miss: Although at this time we are told it is not a done deal, sources tell FootballScoop there is strong possibility Jay Hopson brings Prairie View head coach Willie Simmons to Southern Miss. Simmons served as offensive coordinator for three seasons at Alcorn prior to taking over as head coach at Prairie View following the 2014 season. Hopson is currently meeting with the existing staff members at Southern Miss. Sources tell FootballScoop several staff members are not being retained. Chris Hudgison reports that Alcorn defensive coordinator Tony Pecoraro will join Hopson at USM. We have heard the same; but are not sure what role Tony will have at this time. Will update…

What to Expect

The video embedded in this article from Underdog Dynasty shows Alcorn's 2015 highlights. I know, I know, it's "only a SWAC school"®, but if this is what we can expect from Hopson's teams, it gives me some excitement. I especially like the swarming D and that it looks like Hop is not afraid to bring pressure. The offense is a little harder for me because many of the offensive play clips start right at or after the snap, so it's not as easy to see the formations, but from what I can tell, it looks to be a lot of shotgun w/ single back spread sets with possibly some under center goal-line sets in the red zone. What are your thoughts?

Do a little research

Wishing you guys would at least do a little research before you start bashing potential hires.

I for one hope Wozniak stays and is the OC, because he's a good coach, great recruiter and quality guy.

But, if Hopson hires Simmons as the OC or co-OC I am not going to throw him under the bus simply because he coaches in the "SWAC". If you look at his resume Simmons has been an OC in FBS for two seasons at MTSU an spent a total of five years at MTSU following a year at Clemson.

Same for Tony Pecocaro who spent most of his coaching career at Florida State before going to UNA and then Alcorn.

We owe a HUGE debt of gratitude to coach Meadows, our line

coach and what he did with our offensive linemen. They say you can't make chicken salad our of chicken $#!t and our line was so bad for a couple years I felt sick for our RB's and our poor qb's. But he made a measurable difference. Also, coach Duggan got our defense steadily showing improvement. They are nowhere near the nasty bunch, but nobody's defense is what they once were, not even Alabama's. It's an offensive game now, and CUSA is an offensive league. We ranked 50 nationally, not that good, but 3 in CUSA. (I think Marshall and Tech finished 1 and 2)
I hope coach Hopson will keep them both. It looks like, and I have no idea, but it seems like the "no announcement yet" is a chance for them to mull over offers, or to find face-saving exits, or maybe Hopson is waiting to hear if he can replace them before he lets them go.
I look for Randy Butler to take over one of the open spots, perhaps defensive line coach. He has coached defense pretty much his entire career though he played offensive tackle. He is a Bower guy, so clearly he'll get a good job with the new regime.

ASN network top 50 all time Super bowl players (from ASN TV schools)

Started with 100 I think players.
Narrowed to 50 then fans voted on Twitter.
Chris Clark 33
Adalius 25
Ray Guy, 13
Brett 2 but he will not be QB cause Bradshaw with 4 SB wins was #1

Don't think anyone else had 4 in top 33.
We got some good publicity from this.

If there is a mistake above, it is a memory issue. I swear I am not lying about it

Lanny-2 Questions

I may have missed this so apologize if stated already. On one earlier thread, Jacorey Morris is said to have signed with us yet on your list he is just committed-not signed. Which is it and if not signed do you know of any reason he may not be here for summer workouts or at least by fall camp? Also, any word this afternoon on coaching staff and who retained or not the last you have heard.
