It’s already conference tournament time, and to prepare you for a massive week, here are the latest D1Baseball Field of 64 Projections. We will update the at-large ladder daily during conference tournament week, while also analyzing Top 8, Top 16 and bubble races.
There is just one change regarding the top eight national seeds: Oregon moves in as the final top eight, and Florida State drops out in these projections. The Ducks won a share of the Big Ten regular season title, are up to 12 in the RPI and have a 9-1 record vs. Q1 teams, including series wins over UCLA and Oregon State — both hosts. Though FSU is not a top eight seed in this iteration, the Seminoles are absolutely still in the mix for a top eight. FSU is 14 in the RPI and could easily jump back in with a strong showing at the ACC tournament this week.
There are three new Top 16 seeds this week — Alabama, NC State and West Virginia dropped out, while Clemson, Southern Miss and Georgia Tech entered the mix. Alabama and West Virginia could get right back into the discussion with strong showings at their conference tournaments, while NC State needs some RPI help to get back into the discussion. Georgia Tech entered the Top 16 after winning the ACC regular season crown and having an RPI of 20, Clemson rebounded nicely with a road series sweep over Pitt and is up to 10 in the RPI.
Southern Miss is one of the hottest teams in college baseball, is up to 21 in the RPI and played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. USM also has a road series win over. TCU in non-conference action.
