The only avenue for G5 schools to hold their own is continuity.
Find a system that works, then work it
All the other schools will chase their tails in 4 year cycles. New coach, new system, new recruiting philosophy, success, leave; new coach, new system, ad nauseum.

BUT,
Keep the system (tweaking is fine), keep the same recruiting philosophy, and interchange head coaches that will stick with USM's system. Ala Boise.
This way, you are always wayyyy ahead of the curve. No wasted seasons, with a chance at that 4th year payoff.

This we are not smart enough to do. Or either we are not allowed to do by those in charge.

Chizik is a loser!
If he couldn't win at AU with virtually unlimited funds and the best of situations how could we possibly expect him to win at USM.
As HC he's a loser (other than taking someone else's recruits)!

We recently hired an old "loser" HC (Let's don't ever forget EJ), and Monken (a younger innovative coach) is the only reason that our program thankfully has been restored to its current winning position!!!

That would send everyone running!

Just read my first preliminary brackets. UAB shown and no surprise, LA Tech has a chance, be it slight. Love this time of year for BB, teams really playing hard to make a rush for the brackets. The article listed us as banned from the tournament. There was no astric for self imposed ban. Bummer. Are we sitting out the CUSA tournament again this season?

Only 3 choices bc anyone other than these three would be an epic fail.

I'm ready for an update or news release if it's late evening. Can a brother get an amen from his people?

Are we going to endow one? I think the first recipient should be Jeffery Simmons. We'll call it the give all you can for three years and be done scholarship.


Too soon?

I'm very happy for this guy. I am sad to see him go. Every time I met him in public he was always very kind to me. He was one on one and very genuine. Coaching is like any profession you go where the money is. Unlike most other profession your not always guaranteed a pay check from one year to the next. Coach Monken took over a program that was coming off an 0-12 season, it took a little time but he put us back on the road to respectability. I wish him nothing but the best.

which coach to you think has the best "intangibles" such as speaking skills, recruiting skills, relationship building etc. I have not heard them speak very much. I think that aspect is important to motivate players and fans.

Worked with BM at South Florida. Compiled a 95-57 career record.. Would be similar to his Doc hire.

Coach Golding and UTSA's new coach to come after our recruits hard. Already happening.

Does anyone know what Monken's buy out was? Did we at least receive anything for him leaving like this? Would be nice if we received some compensation that could go towards the next coach.

Lorenzo Dantzler - "I am 100% committed to Southern Miss."

Jacques Turner - "It was shocking to hear the news, but it doesn't affect my commitment."

Wyatt Richthofen - "During the visit I committed not only to Coach Monken but the institution as well. On the visit I really got to know the staff and the players. I connected with all of them immediately and I felt comfortable on campus. I am sorry that I missed the opportunity to get coached by a great guy like Coach Monken. But I do know that he has to do what's best for him and it's a good opportunity and I wish him the best of luck with the Buccaneers! #SMTTT"

I dont think this program needs a splash hire....I think we need someone who understand who and what Southern Miss football is and is built on. We need someone who understand that TM rebuilt this program. TM leaves this program very healthy and trending in a great direction. We need someone to continue the way this program has been rebuilt...the values, the hard work, the creativity. We need someone like Duggan or Lindsey. Someone to keep sailing the ship thats head and heels headed in the right direction.

I hope that our administration doesnt over think this process. Or try and get cute. Whats been going on here the past 3 years has worked. Just because the head coach leaves doesnt mean that you start over. Hopefully he taught his staff and encouraged them to participate in our growth. NOW IS NOT THE TIME to panic and overreact. Next man UP!! Duggan or Lindsey are my hands down vote.
