Postgame interview

I was working, so I could only catch bits and pieces, especially since I'm hardly hearing.;)

What I thought I heard was Monken reiterating how much he loves it here, and how excited he is about the future.

Sure doesn't sound like someone planning to leave anytime soon. The man could build something huge here if he chose to see it through.

I have fallen for coachspeak before.
We'll see.

Disappointing loss

We all wanted to use this as a statement game going into next season, and we're all disappointed that we didn't get it done today. But from where we've been, and where we've come from, this was a great season. We still have a lot to look forward to. Our recruiting is picking up. We'll get more talent here. And we have great coaches. The future is very bright for Southern Miss football!

We got beat by the better team today. We had more than just a

'punchers' chance', we had a real opportunity. But the best team won. Especially with 4 of our guys out, 3 of them good players, though I don't know who the fourth was. 3 of our 5 losses were due to getting whipped up front, MSU, WKY, and UW had D-lines that beat us without them having to do a lot of blitzing etc. UW did some stunting but when you cannot run block you lose. We couldn't run block and we lost.
It would be hard to overestimate how much we will miss Mike Thomas. Casey Martin too, but Thomas makes Nick way better. We loaded up on wide-outs from the JUCOs but I am not sure how many of them can run. DJ Thompson cannot run a lick, so I hope some of our new guys can run and catch. And we better find us some tackles and our guard play was exposed all year long, but we do have a good deal of experience at guard back so maybe we will improve there.
What concerns me is if we will be able to compete on defense at the tackle positions and at MLB. We are two players short and I am not sure the guys are here yet. We have bodies at DT but not much quality. And we need a stud at MLB but who will that be? We got whipped there today and LSU is on our schedule.
On a positive note, we look good at QB, TE, RB, and Center, and on defense we look really good at end and DB, especially safety. Our coaching staff is mostly intact, recruiting is improving, and much of what we lack in raw talent we make up for in mental toughness. Our guys are tough. I admire what they have fought through and how they don't quit. We look like high character guys. I appreciate that. We can get whipped, but we won't quit.

Only Utah and Stanford scored 31 or more this season vs Washington...

Utah scored 34, Stanford scored 31 and California scored 30. Obviously a low scoring win would have been better than a high scoring loss. I was impressed with the offense overall vs a really good defensive team.

This year's team is a special..

Group of young men and some fine coaches. It took a total team effort and some quality coaching to accomplish what we have this year. I will always have a special place in my heart for this year's team and what it took for these young men to get us back competing THE SOUTHERN MISS way!! Thank you guys from the players to the coaches and to the administration for putting us back where we belong.
SMTTT

So proud of our players, or coaches, and especially our fans!

What a season!!! Sad it's over! Been waiting for our come back season for years and we had it this year!!

Our seniors deserved a Southern Miss like season.

Our coaches turn it around for us.

Our fans were outstanding!!! Traveling the last 3 games to La Tech, WKU, and the bowl game! Great turnouts for all three!!

This last game was frustrating. But doesn't nearly change what we all overcame this year!!

Congrats to us all!!! Love love my Eagles, and so proud of everything we have accomplished this year!!!!

Very proud!

I am very proud of our great university today. Even though we didn't pull out the win, the team fought hard. The crowd was great - very good showing by our fans! The band and cheerleaders looked good too. I was sort of surprised by the weak showing by UW fans (but the Huskies I met were very nice). It was such a great time and I'm very glad I got to see it in person! SMTTT!

Keys to the game

Keys to the Game

Turnovers . We must win this stat to win the game . Nick has to be patient. UW is going to press cover like Marshall and bring the heat . Can't force balls.

Recievers are going to have opportunities to hit some big plays. Have to create seperation from their DB"s.

Run the ball. Third and longs will not end well for us.

Washington is playing as good as anyone in PAC 10. . This is going to be a very tough matchup. Peterson will have his team ready. We need to play our best game of the year to win this game and will need a couple breaks fall our way.
