MM Roberts Stadium - Concept for North End Zone

Hey guys,

I've developed a concept for the future of our North End Zone and a way to enclose the stadium. One thing that is an obstacle is that there is not really the radial room to "bowl in" that side with the seating at a decent angle. So here is a concept I developed for the North End Zone, and I am looking for some feedback on the feasibility of the design. As an architecture student at USM, you'll be helping me and that will extend on into our program as a learning experience for me I can share.

The design includes:
- 5-7,000 bleacher seats with backs
- 4 large field-level suites
- Tunnel extending from athletic center/locker room to field
- Eagle statue and other monuments in NEZ will remain and be enclosed by the building

Opportunity costs:
- Loss of field view from athletic center / M club

Please provide your feedback if you have the chance. It'll help me develop my concept further and help with my education.

Honest to goodness....

...This is an exact play-by-play of a conversation I just had at the gym this morning I thought I'd share. Hope everyone on here is enjoying his/her Christmas/New Years holidays....

Guy: Hey nate, what's up? Who you going for in the LSU/Texas Tech game tonight?

Me: Tech...Hope it's a good game, I guess, just for entertainment purposes. Actually I'd be fine watching LSU get worn out

Guy: Really?!?!...That surprises me with you having gotten your undergrad and Masters from Southern Miss...

Me: Why in the world does that surprise you?

Guy: Well I just figured you and most of the alumni down there, along with a good portion of the student population would be die hard tiger fans since they're kind of close in proximity to Hattiesburg/Southern's campus

Me: Are you serious?...

Guy: Well yeah

Me: It made me sick enough walking to class and having to see their gear on some of our students. Tell me this, you graduated from Delta State...Are you a "die hard" ole miss fan?

Guy: Heck no

Me: My heart rate's dropping, Let me get back to it...Enjoy your new years...Sheesh

DE Didravious Henry

Southern has a beast in their back yard. West Marions Didravious Henry is a 6'6" 240lbs DE that has nasty bunch written all over him. He is the nephew of USM great Bobby Hamilton (he took his mothers last name ) his grandfather also played in the NFL so football genetics are strong. Really hope Southern Miss gives him a offer. He is rumored to be very interested in playing for the black and gold.

Payback Time

Since my wife is handicapped and can't attend games, one of my buddies, an Auburn Grad, usually rides down to the games so I don't have to go solo. Now it is my turn, got to go to the bham bowl with him. They are SEC but back in the 80s, that was the last time I went to a game in Auburn, their fans treated me and the Southern fans around me well. I have also found very few Auburn fans that don't respect USM. Worked with the the long snapper that went head up against Jerald Ballis (sp). You could see the fear in his eyes when he recalled the name 20 years after the game. Jerald hit him hit him before release the ball on the first snap causing a turnover. They called him for encroachment but he said it was a bad call. Every time he had to snap after that he was scared to death. Not sure who I will be rooting for (I am sure he will think Auburn but I may do the chic thing and fake it). Auburn or Memphis. P5 or non P5.

2016 predictions

I believe the Eagles make history next year and change the course of two programs in the process.

We run the table and win the conference to finish 13-0. As a result of the season, the Eagles finish ranked at #8 and are the only undefeated team in the country, but fall out of the playoff.

They settle for a trip to New Orleans to play in the Sugar Bowl against SEC runner-up Florida. The Eagles play the game of their lives and defeat the Gators on a game ending 47 yard field goal.

LSU fires Les Miles after the season and Tom Herman leaves Houston to become the Tigers next coach. We're giant killers again and never better....oh and we indirectly screw Youston again along the way ;)

Mullens/ Monken Progression

Got a chance to go to the game and was really proud of my eagles. Was actually going to San Fran to see Golden State/Cleveland, but couldn't pass up this bowl game. Had a chance to watch the game again and saw on a couple occasions Washington clearly in a run blitz and we still ran the ball. Next year will Monk allow Mullens to check out of that play into something else? Because if they're blitzing like that more than likely they're in man coverage and we could hit some big plays?
