My Conspiracy Theory....

Would it be to far fetched to believe the powers that be saw this coming? Like every coach, Monken is no different. You will stay where you are at not unless 2 or 3 wish list scenarios play out.... This looks to have been one of them and BM already knew it... Contract talks were smoke and mirrors to buy time.

Why? Because it has not been BM's style to make any quick decisions as fast as he stated he would make this one (next Saturday at the latest) .

I believe the Bucs knew when the season was almost over and they knew they wanted Koutter. Telling him behind the scenes, he started building his staff then.

After asking his friend TM, TM notified BM that a wish list choice was going to come true and BM had already started the search in preparation for this move .

Regardless, you would not rush a decision like this . Either the internal coach has already been notified he will be the next HC or BM knew this was coming and already had a short list in mind to hire from the outside.

At the end of the day, I think the hire will be Duggan or Lindsey will be brought back.

I know all that sounds crazy, but hey it is a thought considering how the powers that be has made the big decisions. Nothing has come quick or at the last minute.

Senior said it.

Denver should trade #88 Thomas and draft Southern Miss #88 Thomas, because they would save money on unis. # 88. Thomas for Southern Miss would not be caught offsides in a divisional championship game.

Belechek should draft Mullens. Brady costs NE a lot of money and Mullens looks ever bit as good as Brady does under such rush pressure. They could pay NM a couple Mil$ and save a bunch.

Brady should consult Favre about a retirement plan, and Manning should wait one more year before calling Favre.

Thanks Coach Monken

for bringing our program back to the top level of conference. He inherited a program in shambles after only one year of Eloss' tenure. We are in a much better position going into this coaching search.

I believe Monken made the decision to leave based on his love of the NFL. I also believe that he saw the issues with financial support at USM. He knew that he would never get a pay day like the Tampa Bay OC job nor be able to offer recruits top tier facilities.

I selfishly wish that he had waited two weeks to make the announcement. However, I respect him for coming forward immediately. The recruits needed to know instead of pulling the rug out after signing day.

I'm not mad that he's leaving and wish him the best. He did a really good job in a short period of time. Hopefully we will continue the positive momentum.

On Bill's shoulders now

Let's put this in perspective. Monken is a good coach.....maybe a great coach. We all knew that he was destined for better things, just not this soon. He is going back to the NFL not another college. There is no chance that he will take any recruits with him. Monken probably has his sights set on a HC job in the NFL. He is chasing his dreams. Hard to blame him for taking a significant step up. Sunny skies, good weather and beaches....need I say more.

USM is losing momentum for the moment. We are losing our HC and had already lost two good assistants. But we have a good class going and had tremendous success this past year after a dismal three years.

The onus is on our AD now. To regain the MO, we have to have a splash hire. I was not impressed with the BB hire but that is behind us now. BM must show that he recognizes the scope of the college game and what drives it. The new HC, IMO, must have the same philosophy offensively because of the way the team is built and the team needs some continuity. Does that mean hire from within? Maybe, but I think we should look to the Big 12 OC's as we have in the past. Most of those teams run very similar offensive schemes. I don't want to be in BM's shoes. He is in a tough spot with the time limitations. Pray for him......this is a big hire. We may need divine intervention.

Everything is okay.

Southern Miss won 9 games in 2015, had 11 freshmen redshirts, and will return 33 of 44 guys on the 2-deep depth chart.

Everything is okay.

The timing sucks, but if 3 weeks from now we look up and no major recruits have bounced, we'll laugh at some of the comments made today.

We're not shocked Todd Monken left... we're shocked that he left right now.

We open at Kentucky and can potentially be 6-0 headed into LSU. Most of us will only be upset next season if we only win 10 and don't play for the CUSA Championship.

Remember how you felt as the clock ran out on the Memphis game in 2012. You remember that? From 12-2 to 0-12. Things were much worse then, and the future much more uncertain.

Everything is okay. Southern Miss to the top.
