Very early in the process, but let's see where the board stands.

Lincoln Riley

OC at Oklahoma. Former OC at ECU. Coached at Texas Tech under Leach. 32 years old and coaches a dynamic offense. One of the brightest minds out there. Makes 500,000 per year according to Internet. ECU wanted him bad but good friends with Ruffin and would not interview to his credit. ECU fans I know adore him. Interview him.
I vote Lindsey or Duggan otherwise. Give assistants a raise. I'll give to a special fund if we start one. SMTTT damn it!

Promoting from within...

Seldom happens. It seems like ADs are just unwilling to do it - like it's on their "NEVER do this" list.
The last time I recall such overwhelming fan opinion to do it here was 2012 with Blake.

The unusual timing in this case (...after the D1 coaching carousel has ended...) may make this that rare occasion, but I'm not going to be surprised a bit if it doesn't happen...

If it doesn't happen, please please please Bill - don't introduce the new man as a "funny dude"...

Early Names

Here are a few early names I have picked up from what I consider legitimate sources. That doesn't mean they are legitimate candidates but here's what I have right now:

Chip Lindsey - Offensive Coordinator - Arizona
David Duggan - Defensive Coordinator - Southern Miss
Will Hall - Head Coach - University of Wet Georgia
Jay Hopson - Head Coach - Alcorn State University
Robert Gillespie - Recruiting Coordinator/RB Coach - Tennessee

No way to do a true nationwide search just days until signing day.

There is NO way for the new coach to put together a staff, re-recruit the players who are still being recruited by other schools, and what new head coach will want to keep the former coaches key assistants? We got hosed by Monken. I suppose Bill wasn't offering the numbers, or the terms, Monken liked so he bolted. He'll get a million or so, maybe a little more, (Norv Turner make 3 million but he is an anomaly) to be a pro OC. I wonder if we were that far from that? Maybe the NFL was his dream and so he went. I know the NFL won't run Monken's frenetic quick snap version the spread. Or any version of the spread.
Anyway, I think coach Duggan is the odds on favorite. Time is really of essence, we need staff stability, we need to keep our recruits, and it is too late to make those broad sweeping changes. One thing I'll betcha, there will be no shortage of candidates.
If they look outside the program, and they must, then Bill Clark (UAB) would be a good place to begin interviewing. I guess Chip Lindsey wishes he would have stayed around. I would NOT invite him back for an interview if I were the AD.
I don't blame Monken for leaving and following his dream. I think his timing is unconscionable.

someone on staff

If we hire someone not on the current staff, this year's recruits are gone. Anybody want to guess how hard it would be to bring in athletes in one week before signing day? This could be bad. Worse than Ellis bad if we don't promote soon. Surely our athletic director knew of the possibility and had a day or two to prepare. I would hope he understands how recruiting works and what this would do to our program.
