RPI stats......Interesting

Mississippi State is Ranked #3 in Baseball America with a record of 30-14-1.
Their record against the RPI TOP 100 is 18-13.
They are also Ranked #4 by the Coaches Poll.
They have lost games to Eastern Kentucky and Orel Roberts.
RPI ranking: 11

Southern Miss is Ranked #21 by Baseball America with a record of 31-14.
Coaches rank USM #26.
Record vs RPI top 100 is 17-12.
RPI: 19

I know, I know....They have won series against the mighty SEC.
But, our League might be just as good as their League.

Seems to me the coaches should do a little Homework assignment.

Hosting

I read the transcript from yesterday's Baseball America live chat, and someone asked about Southern Miss's chance of hosting. The general consensus is that the winner of CUSA will likely get a host spot. They said the only thing the FAU series ended was our shot at a national seed. We still control our own destiny - we just need to take care of business because we have no margin for error whatsoever. While the FAU series was disappointing, winning that Sunday game kept our hopes of hosting alive.

Interesting Facts (I Think) About Thomas And Reed...

....Pro Football Focus is a web-site that covers the NFL and they are heavy into analytics in their player evaluations. In the recent draft, Michael Thomas led the nation in % of catches of contested balls. Palin Reed led the nation in % of passes defensed when he was targeted. Both had 3rd round grades based on on-field performance. Why were they picked in the 6th and 7th round? I'm a Colts fan because I really like Andrew Luck. In the 2nd round, they picked a safety, T J Green of Clemson. He was the fastest safety and 2nd fastest db at the combine. 6' 2", 215 lbs., so he has perfect size. He was however, the last rated db in this draft in the area of coverage skills and missed 17 tackles last year. He had a particularly bad game in the Nat'l. Title game. Go figure how NFL scouts evaluate. The Combine is vastly overrated.

Coach Graham at Rice just celebrated his 80th birthday recently...

He was not hired by Rice as a head coach until 1992 when he was 56. He was probably considered by some in 1992 to be too old to be head coach material at a division I school. To put this into perspective, imagine Coach Berry still on the field as a head coach in the year 2045.

BGN was well represented at Dr Bill Smith roast last night

Bassin Eagle (funny guy!!) and I were roasters and I suspect at least one of the other two are BGN regulars.

Bill has not only been the best prof on campus for 37 years, he has been a huge supporter and worker for Athletcis, Alumni and others.

We raised $35,000 for his endowment and hope to get it to $100,000.
If Dr Bill has ever helped you in any way, please help with this effort.
Contributions of any size can be made to the USM Foundation/Bill Smith endowment.

MS Power deserves huge thanks for their help and contributions to last night's success!
