Coach Hall Rumor....Nothing Official

I am hearing that he is out and Stringer will be named Interim HC. I mentioned in the game thread yesterday about this.

After this, I wouldn't be surprised if we see an Interim HC Monday. Hearing some chatter....

I am not saying this is 100% but I am also very careful when I post about this stuff too.

Whoever the new coach chosen for the 2025 season will have a pretty good situation to walk into considering the lack of success. This is a talented roster. Being able to come in a recruit current players will be a must. I would also prefer someone with no real ties to USM. They need to think out of the box on this one.

What are your top 3 criteria for new USM FB HC?

Unless a miracle happens, USM is going to be searching for a new HC at season's end. Here are my top 3 criteria for a new HC:

1. No ties to the university. We have been down the good old boy hiring road before. The last 2 most successful HC were Fedora and Monken. Neither with ties to the school.

2. Would be better to have an offensive minded coach. The former OC has usually been the beat hires (yes Hall was on OC, but he was the only former OC who cane here and had zero success).

3. Needs to be a disciplinarian. Hall tried too much to be thier friend at times. Hard to discipline a player when he is treated as a friend. If the new HC needs to clean house, so be it.

Would love to know your thoughts?

Something to watch for this next week....

First, I hope you all have a great weekend. Perhaps a weekend off isn't so bad right now.

If you want to see where the mind of this USM team is, start watching the transfer portal and opt-outs. 4 games have been played so far. I don't think it will happen, but the opportunities is there.

They have for to get a handle on the portal and especially multiple transfers. UNLV just had a QB (FCS QB Transfer who says he was told he had 100,000 dollar NIL package at a G5) opt-out because he wanted more NIL money (come to find out he had no such deal and the speculationis other schools contacted him after their 3-0 start wanting him next season.). State just had leading receiver opt-out and use his redshirt.

This isn't college football anymore, this is a season of The Sopranos mixed with Ballers in the setting of college football. Until they get some guts and start making rules the only hope may be for Congress to step in and I don't want politics in my sports.

September 25 Injury Report

Hey guys,
I was at football practice this morning for a brief bit before walking over to basketball practice. I'll have a story on basketball, but I still wanted to post some important football news.

John White was not at practice this morning, presumingly injured. Kyle McCormick went with the twos and Tate Rodemaker with the ones. Rodemaker's ankle seemed to be really bothering him, and it was very hard for him to run and scramble. I'd say the QB position is wide open heading into next Saturday.

Hall and the fig tree.

I have sharpened my axe but will not use it yet. I want to see one more game. I will swing it after the next game if Hall does not stay on Bignell's ass. If he allows the defense to follow the same pattern displayed against Jax, the axe will be put in motion. There was no excuse for the defense's lack of aggressiveness and lifelessness. Hall must advise Bignell that anything less than 100% will cost him his job: buddy or no Buddy.

The next game will be the true must-win. A drastic improvement in the defense and a healthy quarterback may result in a six-win season. To a lesser degree the same can be said for the OC.

Here is what happened over the weekend....

All of this has been posted by me in other threads, but I wanted to bring everything together here.

There was serious talk and discussions about removing Will after the game.

The problem was no coach wanted to become an interim head coach of a sinking ship. This is a really young staff and no one wants a potential 0-8 on their record. The 2020 situation was different because Jay and Scotty both resigned. This current staff have known each other for years and will not go behind Will's back.

The extra money spent on buying Will out and upgrading staff pay for an Interim will be better used on the new HC and staff. At this rate you are looking at an 800,000 dollar buyout amd compared to spending almost 1.8 million to get rid of hall now. Save that extra million.

Jeremy making a statement now is 50/50 to me. I understand that the fans want to see that he is listening. I also understand that saying something now and if somehow Will wins 5 of last 8 and goes to a bowl will be a bad look.

This would all be made easier if Will would just resign, but that will not happen. He wants the money contracted to him and resigning might cancel that out.

So, here we are. This is pretty much a lame duck season. Most important thing now is to keep the team together. A mass exodus from the squad would put the collective in a pinch and I am not sure they can afford to replace 3/4 of the team. Tough days ahead....

What happened, and where do we go?

After the game, a lot of thoughts went through my head. I know I am being selfish, but I can't hold on for another year with my health issues. You younger folks have the luxury of going through another coach, but I don't. All I can do now is remember the good old days.

I have put up with a lot of losses over the years. Many games were lost even though the guys played their hearts out. With the talk about firing coaches, the DC should have been terminated at halftime. He doesn't know how to handle a defense playing without any aggressiveness or heart, which killed us. They were beaten in every way possible. He does not know how to teach the basic principles of tackling.

As for Hall, he has nothing but bad luck. Quarterbacks can't stay healthy. A fumble by the quarterback at the 6-inch line. He may have Rod at 100% in two weeks, which should help. He will also have that time to shore up the defense. The only thing that was good for us was a blocked extra point.

It is simple for Will: Win five more games or hit the door. Take the SC coach with you.

Future of Eagle Football-Many still Positive.

In my prediction for last night's game, I indicated that we would win by 21-31 points, but we actually won by 25 points about midway. Few people believed we would be an OM and beat SELA by 75 points.

The defense played very well. Because of backup secondary players, some of their receivers were wide-open. We got a little better on the pass rush, and tackling appeared to improve.

The offense could not consistently move the ball on the ground. This was due to not using the best running backs in certain situations, and the play-calling was not good. The OL can not hold a block, so it is better to use a quick back or power back for quick hitters. Rod proved that we now have a quarterback who can pass.

Andrew missing the two field goal was a rare event. He is usually dead on. That won't happen again.

We will play better each week and go into conference play much improved. Our talented offense will be able to pass. Next week will be a big game for us, and we should do well. I want to see how the DC defends Brown.

Dumpster Fire.

As much as I wanted Hall to be successful, the team he has put on the field is unacceptable. Yesterday reminded me of the Johnson year. I don't know how much lower we can sink. Remember when everyone said we were too good for the Sunbelt? We've been a non competitive program for so long, IDK how we right the ship. Fire Hall and who do you hire? We can't afford a "name" coach, but surely we can find one better. I don't think we lose many players to the portal because I haven't seen any talent on this team that other teams would desire. Sad but true. The apathy is as bad as I have ever seen from supporters. Hardly anyone on this board these days. No one cares and we need a fix.
