Computer Ratings and Championship game

First let me tell you just how ridiculous this mid season rule change is. No self respecting athletic director should have ever voted for this. Im not sure what the undercurrent is for this change, but it seems there are at least 13 athletic directors at CUSA schools that dont know a thing about fair play. Probably got too many participation trophies when they were growing up, rather than follow the rules of winning and losing.

Ive looked at all the computer ratings and In all but one Southern Miss is ahead of UAB. La Tech is ahead of Southern Miss in all but one as well. The interesting thing is in the ratings that Southern Miss is behind Tech, Massey has Southern Miss one spot behind Tech, Colley 2 spots, A & H 2 spots, Wolfe 12 and Billingsley 10. in the Saragin ratings Southern Miss is ahead of Tech by 7 and UAB by 19. In the Billingsley ratings UAB is ahead of Tech by 4 and USM by 14. So by average Tech is at 66.5, Southern Miss is 70.8333 and UAB is at 75. Certainly right now things dont favor Southern Miss.

But.... and this is a big but because i dont keep up with these ratings at all......the schedule favors Southern Miss in this final game if they can get a win and both other teams also get a win.

FAU (USM opp) ratings: Saragin=64, Massey=41, Colley=33, Wolfe=39, A&H=45, Billingsley=34.
UNT(UAB opp) ratings: Sar=125, Mas=114, Col=116, wol=114, A&H=116, Bill=109
TX-SA (Tech opp) rat: Sar=155, mas=121, col=118, wol=122, AH=119, Bill=117

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to recognize that wins by all three teams should benefit Southern Miss the most in terms of rating in each poll. And while at this point in the season, movement is probably only going to be slight, it wont take a lot.

A Southern Miss win over FAU is a big hurdle, but that might be enough to propel the Eagles into the champ game...... but, it looks as though if that occurs.... Marshall with a win saturday would host the championship game based on those same computer ratings.
Marshall Ratings: sar=84, mas=62, col=46, wol=52, ah=59, bill=49.

If Marshall loses and Southern Miss moves up in the ratings enough to win the West, Southern Miss would host FAU based on head to head win during the season. Because of losses to Marshall and FAU, WKU does not factor into any tie situation in the East.

Ok guys, Jack looks fine. He is throwing the ball well and looks to be moving and planting on both legs without any trouble. O-Line looks the same. If you have any questions ask here. I will pay attention to defense tomorrow as today we can only request offense. I also have some interviews to put up and will get them uploaded when I can....

Ok guys, addendum to this, who was wearing a red numberless jersey at WR is a mystery. I am to believe that Adams may not be on the team anymore. Will try and find out more tomorrow.

Our football program...

... is a victim of the liberals and their power brokers who have commandeered our university. If Jeff Hammond had been allowed to stay on as AD, and Joe Paul had been named President, we would not be in the predicament we are in now. All the blather and hot talk about how "we've got to do this, or we've got to do that, we've got to find a way get Hattiesburg and South Mississippi to love us" doesn't matter. The whole structure of our football future was flushed when those two people above were rejected. We are way past the point of no return, afaic...

JUCO DE Dominic Quewon talks Southern Miss commitment

Southern Miss got a nice boost in recruiting yesterday with the commitment of Iowa Western Community College DE Dominic Quewon. The 6'3 250 lbs Minnesota native was tabbed by JC Gridiron as one of the top 15 WDE in all of NJCAA. His size and speed will definently be needed to fill a void in a position that will see a lot of graduation Seniors moving on from Southern Miss after this season. Big Gold Nation recently got the opportunity to sit down and chat with Dominic about his resent Southern Miss commitment. Here is the transcript of the interview below.

Team looks about as prepared as they can be, Bozeman wants to play but we shall see, Boothe is probably out. Everyone else on D is a go. Nothing really too much to report about practice, it is pretty much the same every day now. I can say the team is in good spirits and was really having fun today, which was nice to see after last game. More to come with player Interviews....

New Tie Breaker Rule determined the last couple of days.

Another example of poor decision making on part of CUSA leadership and crazy policies. Jeremy McClain needs to ride this arbitrary decision that seems somewhat smelly.

I can live with what was dictated rule provided there was sufficient time for careful thought and implemented prior to the a new season. However to call a vote the week of the final games that determine positioning for the championship game kills all integrity of a poorly run conference with weak leadership.

Our A.D. needs to go to war on this with the mindset we ramp up the desire to move to a new conference. We know the odds of entering a new league but all the while. This needs to be a rallying point for USM fans.

Many things have been named that are cause or partial cause for our demise of our athletics teams success. For me conference affiliation is as guilty as any. Personally I have little interest in any opponent in C-USA except Marshall.

Go to war on this Jeremy!

Change is needed in CUSA!!!

When a company becomes stagnant and or even just becomes happy with mediocrity often times new blood is hired to oversee that company to explore new options and just to have a different vision to grow that company

We need a new CEO to run this conference! We are slowly being crept upon by what we used to call a lower tier conference's It's time for a change atop CUSA We need new blood w/ new vision!

How has Judy the clown kept her job? What will it take to remove her?
