Heath any thoughts?

Heath,

I am just wondering if you can tell any difference in the mood of the team / coaches after this humiliating loss? I guess is that ever present optimism we saw earlier gone at this point? I know the fans are universally ticked off on social media, but this question is more about how this loss affected the team.

Also, your honest take on did you see this coming, and what do think a realistic win total is for the season at this point?

My quick thoughts on the South Alabama game...

1. The team, as a whole, was not ready to play tonight. Defense played their hearts out, but the offense was trash.
2. Special Teams was solid.
3. This loss stings harder to the fanbase because of what was sold to them in the offseason. Will Hall went out and sold this program and told everyone this team will be better. They were not. If the game was close and the fans could see there is something to build off of, that is one thing, but this was tough to watch. Also remember Kane Womack was a name that was thrown around for this job.
4. To his credit, Hall did take the blame for this and asked everyone to stay with them, and they will get better.
5. They will get better because there is no way to go but up from here.

OK, I am done for tonight!!

Game 1 vs South Alabama: What We Learned

Season openers with a new coaching staff are always wild cards. The invigoration that follows new blood in town promises turnaround, high expectation, and a whole lot of unknown. These factors were especially evident in Hattiesburg in the offseason as the new Golden Eagle head man Will Hall continued to build expectations – repeatedly telling fans that Southern Miss would return to prominence as one of the top G5 programs in the country.

Food options on campus are not like the old days of just the Commons anymore...

The best thing about the Commons was it helped me keep my weight down back in the days I lived on campus.

Sunday thoughts...

I'm not ready to shut down the program just yet. I will be there Saturday! I just can't see supporting any other school. My loyalty is with Southern Miss only. I do admit losing is getting old. The fan base so wants to win & win today. Always, SMTTT! Please continue to support Southern Miss with you time & financial support! We must get football turned around, it's good for all other sports & the school. Moving down a level, like some suggest on social media, is just unacceptable.

Here’s what the “Jock” is Cooking.

I call your attention to some of my more recent posts:

  • Heath asked the question regarding our concerns about the game. Offense, defense, etc.? I replied the offense because they needed to move the ball and keep USA off the field. They didn’t
  • I previously stated the OL was bad last year and with mostly the same people back there would not be any improvement. There wasn’t
  • I said we have some advantages going into the game. Revenge factor, more team members that have played together, and a large fan following. I was wrong
  • I had a concern that the line dropped as the game approached. I was right
Observations:

With the exceptions of Gore and Hunt, there was little to shout about. The returners of KOs and punts must be replaced. Harrell should not be one of them. We need speed.

The secondary that was supposed to be much improved is worse than last year by far.

When stated Lowe was by far the starting QB, I thought he had really improved, but his performance last night was beyond horrible.

Playcalling was not very good.

I will never believe hype again,
