The Tulane Game

Coin Toss: Tulane won the toss and deferred; Southern Miss received and defended the South goal.

Team Notes:
* The Golden Eagles improved to 33-9 overall in the series versus Tulane, snapping a two-game losing streak.
* Will Hall is now 3-0 in the series, having won twice as the offensive coordinator at Tulane and as the head coach for Southern Miss tonight.
* Despite this being the 16th game played for Southern Miss against Tulane in New Orleans, this was the first time the Golden Eagles played on the Tulane campus and first time outside of the Louisiana Superdome.
* Southern Miss currently now enjoys a two-game winning streak.
* After giving up just 20 points in its first three games, Tulane surrendered 27 to the Golden Eagles in this contest.
Offensive Notes:
* The Golden Eagles got on the board with a 23-yard touchdown pass from Zach Wilcke to Jason Brownlee. It was the second TD catch for Brownlee and 15th of his career. It was the third-straight game for Wilcke with a TD pass as he now has four for the year.
* Jakarius Caston established a career high for catches with eight for 91 yards, including a 37-yard touchdown reception from Wilcke in the third quarter. It was his second-straight with a TD catch and third scoring reception this season.
Defensive Notes:
* Dominic Quewon registered his team-high third sack of the year in the second quarter.
* The Golden Eagles registered had four sacks for the third straight game and now have 14 on the year.
* Eric Scott, Jr., returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the Golden Eagles up 27-17 in the game. It was his second interception for a touchdown this season.
* Santrell Latham led the team with nine tackles in the contest.
Special Teams Note:
* Jay Jones collected his first blocked punt of his career in the second quarter as it was the program’s first blocked punt since Jordan Mitchell did it against UTEP on Sept. 28, 2019.
* With his 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, Briggs Bourgeois has now converted his last five field goal attempts after converting a 36-yard field goal in the second quarter.
* Natrone Brooks blocked a field goal in the fourth quarter, marking his first career block and first for the Golden Eagles since Ky’el Hemby blocked a 40-yard attempt against at North Texas in 2020.
