Recruiting/Portal Tid Bits....

Southern Miss is pretty much finished with the QB position. They like what is returning and what is coming in. Spring will be interesting at that position.

I think they will bring in a RB if all works out.

OL and DL they feel good about. Yet, if one is in the portal they like, they will go after them.

LB and DB they feel good about as well, but just like DL/OL, if one fits what they are looking for they will offer.

Bringing in transfers is more than just how talented they are. Guys are in the portal for a ton of reasons and many are because of attitude and their overall approach to things. They way they interview and what other coaches and players say means a lot to this staff. They will not break up the togetherness and family aspect of this team to bring a talented player in.

We still have Spring to go. If they aren't happy with what they see in the Spring, they can still get players out of the portal. The next rush of players to the portal is after Spring practice. There will be plenty of good players who will be needing a home and needing it immediately. That is when G5 schools like Southern Miss can really move in and pick up gems.

MLB Twins writer identifies Matt Wallner as a good trade candidate

Wallner is the least established of the group. The former Southern Mississippi star just made it onto the MLB roster as a September call-up. He played 18 games down the stretch. Wallner, who draws praise from prospect evaluators for his power potential, otherwise split the season between Double-A Wichita and St. Paul. He hit .277/.412/.542 with 32 home runs in 571 plate appearances between the top two minor league levels. Wallner just turned 25 and still has all three options remaining.
