MLB.com analysis of best up and coming pitchers in mlb with Golden Eagle with Bosox

Red Sox: Dalton Rogers, LHP (No. 24)
A surprise third-round pick out of Southern Mississippi last July, Rogers stands out with the low release height and flat plane on a 91-96 mph fastball that hitters can't seem to barrel. He has given up just three runs while striking out 28 in his last 17 innings, and he has an overall 2.49 ERA, .139 opponent average and 38 strikeouts in 21 2/3 frames in Single-A.

D1 Baseball: Postseason Buzz: Sizing up Wednesday’s developments

Southern Miss got yet another terrific performance from righthanded pitcher Tanner Hall in a dominant 7-1 win over James Madison to go to 1-0 at the Sun Belt tournament. USM improved its RPI positioning two spots to 26 and continues to inch closer to hosting. As we said on the NerdCast a few days ago, USM will need to continue winning to have a chance to host, but so far so good.

Our hitting was good today. We need to get some hits from a couple of people who have been excellent through the year. Troy tomorrow at 4:00 PM CST.

Come on brother Wilkes, we need ya..

The Golden Eagle offense was no slouch either on this day. All nine starters registered at least one hit, including three from Rodrigo Montenegro, as Southern Miss recorded 14 in the affair. The double-digit hit performance for the team was the 27th in their 54 contests in 2023.

Dr. Rodney D. Bennett

Hey Eagles, I haven't been over here in many moons. Since we played last, your team has done a heck of a lot better than ours.

The University of Nebraska just hired your President for our Chancellor. We spent over $100K on the search and took time with it, so hopefully we are hiring the best candidate available. Any thoughts? Has Dr. Bennett done a good job at Southern Mississippi?

Postseason Buzz: Sizing up national seed, hosting and bubble situations

Other potential hosts to watch now include Indiana State, Dallas Baptist, Campbell, East Carolina, Southern Miss, and Oregon State. I feel like the metrics just aren’t there for the Sycamores when you consider the entire resume, DBU is still squarely in the mix as a conference champion with an RPI of 15, Campbell is up to 21 in the RPI and could host with a very strong showing in the Big South tourney, ECU won the American regular season title again and is sitting at 22 in the RPI, while Southern Miss and OSU are sitting at 28 and 30. Both of those teams have work to do, but if the Beavers, for instance, have a strong showing in the Pac-12 tournament, it’s my belief that they’ll host even with an iffy RPI given the fact they finished second in the Pac-12 with an 18-12 league record. Stay tuned, as the hosting race is still very much wide open.

Coastal Carolina continues to be in a good spot to host as a Top 16. The Chanticleers beat North Carolina in the midweek before sweeping Marshall over the weekend. So, no new blemishes. Furthermore, it won the nation’s No. 5 RPI conference and has a Top 16 RPI. I feel confident in saying Coastal will be a host in a couple of weeks. Furthermore, the Chants could get back into the top-eight mix with a strong showing at the SBC tourney.

Bubble Teams
Texas State was the last team out of our field last week, and the Bobcats hurt their case over the past week with a midweek loss to TCU and a 2-1 record against ULM over the weekend. The Bobcats are now sitting at 52 in the RPI as the fifth-place team in the Sun Belt. That requires a very strong run in the conference tournament to make the field.
