He goes 8 innings, allowing only 3 hits, and struck out 12, while walking 1 on a borderline ball/strike call. He is now 11-3, with a 2.45 ERA. He won the Ferriss Award last season and he probably sewed it up again with that performance. Hopefully, it won't be his last start at The Pete.

DB, Elijah Sabbatini is transferring to USM.

He did not play much at Ole Miss but was the #14 rated player out if Mississippi in 2020-2021.

I hope he recovers.

He is one of the finest men I have ever met. He has done so much for Southern Miss Baseball and the university. His place among legendary USM Head Coaches is among the best. As good of a coach as he is, he is even a better person. He will be missed. Thank You Coach Berry!!!

If it were me, I have a few ideas.

#1 Rename 4th Street as Scott Berry Drive or 40th Street.

2. How about 2 statues. I would love to see 2 statues with Corky and Scott out front shaking hands after a win.

Be a 15 or 16 seed and host. Or would you rather be a high 2 seed at a 15 or 16 seed and face a low 3 seed in the first round?

It is a very interesting thought. The Golden Eagles made it to Omaha as a 3 seed on the road, but have hosted and failed to reach Omaha again. Which is the easier route? Sure, everyone wants more games at The Pete but do those home games outweigh an easier route to Omaha?

I saw on Twitter from Rodrigo’s dad that this past weekend was the “last ever regular season” road trip. Rodrigo is listed as a junior in the roster. Does anyone know if he’s not returning next year?

Colby: What are the chances southern miss hosts?
Kendall Rogers: Would need to keep winning and hope the RPI follows suit. Right now, USM’s RPI is sitting at 28, which is probably too low to host. With that said, playing Louisiana this weekend won’t hurt the RPI, leaving USM a chance to go on a run in the conference tourney and bolster that RPI. It’s a definite possibility, but not an outcome I would predict just yet.

eglz: Is this finally the Southern Miss team that was expected going into this season?
Aaron Fitt: I mean, they are 35-15, so they’ve been a pretty good club all year long, but clearly they are on a serious roll right now, with the nation’s longest winning streak. Getting Matthew Adams back on track this week felt like an important development, and I really like the way Niko Mazza pitching right now in that long relief role. As usual, Christian Ostrander has put all the puzzle pieces together on the mound, and I like how those pieces fit. And the offense has certainly clicked after an uneven first half. Very dangerous team heading into the postseason, clearly.

Brendan: Is the Sun Belt a good enough league for a team like Troy to feel safe where they stand right now?
Kendall Rogers: It’s a really good league and I think the top two teams should feel safe. But there are enough warts on Troy’s resume (and on the resumes of other contenders) to be a little hesitant to say yes.

Brad: All, great job. What percentages do you give Coastal to host, National seed, get out of a regional? Thanks again great read!
Aaron Fitt: I’ll go 70 percent host, 30 percent top-8 seed. If they do host, I really like their chances to win a regional at home — that’s an offensive club that is built for its home ballpark. But

After a disappointing loss to Louisiana Tech Tuesday evening, Southern Miss is now 3-5 in midweek affairs. But weekends are what really matter, and a strong showing in the last month of play has kept the postseason resumé afloat. This weekend in Conway, a major shot to solidify an at-large case is on the line.
