Southern Miss under newly hired head coach Jay Hopson continues their all out recruiting blitz on Florida. Today they extended more offers and one of those went to Lakeland (FL) High defender Damarri Mathis.

Each new coach usually brings in a few new wrinkles to the football uniform like helmet logos, racing stripes, etc.
I wonder how JHop will update our uniform look this year, Hmmm...

It certainly appears that we are making some moves to dial back our overall salary budget for the football coaching staff, and I think I have some additional insight into how Shannon Dawson as OC will be helpful to that. It appears that Dawson's UK contract will pay him $550K through the 2018 season, and will be reduced by any salary he gets from other employment. However, given that he's guaranteed $550K and we wouldn't pay nearly that much, I think it's likely that you could assume we will get him for a heck of a bargain and Kentucky will foot most of the bill for his services for the next 3 seasons. He can afford to take a very low salary here, considering his guaranteed money coming from UK.

Southern Miss has been on a strong recruiting push since signing day. One of the most recent Southern Miss offers went to Grenada (MS) High standout defender Javaris Russell.

Russell is a talented 6-foot-0, 205-pound linebacker that runs sideline to sideline and has a nose for the ball.

So as a poster now, my first concern is this: With all this stuff I'm reading about "new coaches", I would like to know who these guys are. Did I miss the posts about these hirings?

Sometimes thought Monken and staff were a little late identifying potential recruits. This does not appear to be the issue with the new staff. They are all about the business of connecting with the top talent around the southeast. It will be fun to watch how this approach pans out.

Southern Miss, under newly hired head coach, Jay Hopson is proving once again that they're not afraid to jump in the deep end of the pool when it comes to recruiting top players. On Wednesday, Southern Miss extended an offer to Newton (Covington, GA) High 3-star receiver Jeremiah Holloman.

Holloman was previously committed to Michigan before re-opening his recruitment last week.

Roswell (GA) High receiver prospect Jayden Comma may have had as big of a recruiting week as anyone in the South over the past seven days.

During that time he picked up five offers including one from Southern Miss.

....he is transferring from LSU. He wants to stay at the FBS level. He would be worth looking into. He was a top recruit 2 years ago who never seemed to fit in at LSU.
