Just spoke with Coach Will Hall....

Wanted to get some updates about progress this Spring. Interesting thoughts from CWH....

1. I asked if he is getting any closer to having a true depth chart. He responded adamantly NO. He said Spring was about getting the young and new guys better and getting them adjusted to the way they do things. He did say that we will sit down with me once Spring is complete and give me his thoughts on what a depth chart may look like going into Fall.

2. He did say he had 1 spot left to fill. He also stated that he is sure a few guys will leave after Spring, that's just the way things go in the portal. He will fill those positions based on what he has seen this Spring, but has no idea now what he will do.

3. He is pleased with the overall performance of the team this Spring, especially with learning two new systems. He does have guys that are out this Spring but that was due to getting guys a chance to fully recover from the season before and injuries. He feels he knows what he has there.

Hope that answers some of your questions.

Football: It has been difficult to judge what progress has occurred in the Spring due to injuries.

The players in the OLine have been juggled around every practice due to injuries. There are 16 players with injuries and in the rehab process, with most on the defensive side of the football. This has allowed many 2nds to shine.
  • WR Davis Dalton re-injured a lower-body issue and left the scrimmage early. DT Cam Mackey will require surgery on the injured knee and is likely out until November.
  • Freshman Jalen Williams is really making his mark, and I would not be surprised if he were the starter in September.
  • This team will be the most talented in years. The depth is stable and will provide rest for the starters.
  • I will cite players that are standing out in practice in the next few days.

D1Baseball Weekly Chat: Week Six - Southern Miss and Fun Belt

GeoDawg: Dang. The top of the Fun Belt took a hit this weekend. Now the #6 rpi conference, are they down to a 3 bid league rather than 4? I think its chock full of regional caliber teams, it just seems like they may cannibalize each other into a cluster of 40s-60s rpi’s, rather than 4-5 in the top 40.

Kendall Rogers: Still too early to predict exact bids, but I think it could be anywhere from 3-5 bids before it’s all said and done. There are plenty of RPI adjustments that will happen between now and even 2-3 weeks from now. For instance, even though I love what the Big East is doing, that league won’t stay where it is right now from an RPI standpoint. I feel pretty good about Coastal and Southern Miss right now. I also feel like teams like Louisiana, Texas State and perhaps even a App State is right ont he cusp. Same as USA.

Brad: Should I be nervous about Coastal? Hitting lefties is an issue and pitching has not been good. Do you foresee this squad hosting or more 2/3 line. Should I panic? Enjoy you guys!

Aaron Fitt: I wouldn’t panic, still really like their lineup and they do have some good arms, but this was a bad week. We never expected Coastal to be elite on the mound, it was always a team that was likely going to have to win a lot of high scoring games, and I still think that’s the case. I certainly still believe that team is capable of rallying and hosting a regional.

Jordan: How do you see the Cajuns going forward with this streak that they are currently on? Do you think they have a shot at the SBC regular season title?

Kendall Rogers: Jordan — Like what I’m seeing from Matt Deggs’ club right now. They were scuffling a couple of weeks ago, but they pitched at a very high level against a quality ODU club over the weekend. Going to Texas State and that jet stream at Bobcat Field will be difficult. So, if the Cajuns can go there and win that series, I’m feeling pretty good about them the second half of the season. They have the arms to be a very dangerous postseason club, imo.

I forgot about the earlier string on baseball injuries and have posted on that string.

If so how much longer will he be out? Are there any others on the baseball team out with an injury? An additional question is about catcher Gray Bane. He had really good batting numbers in junior college but has not played this year at all as far as I can tell.
