In the midst of Father’s Day celebrations or reminiscing about our dads who have passed from this temporary existence, we ask for prayer for the family of Coach Jay Hopson. A statement from the family this morning indicated that Coach Hopson’s dad and highly respected Vicksburg physician, W. Briggs Hopson, Jr. “joined the company of angels in heaven” yesterday at the age of 82.

Early look at spring practice 2020 for Southern Miss football: defense

Well, here we are. The COVID-19 virus has pretty much done the unthinkable. It has stopped the sports world as we know it. Not for a few weeks, but for the next 2 to 3 months. Will universities take a month, then come back and decide if it is alright for teams to start practicing? With all the questions out there, there is only one thing for Big Gold Nation to do. We will keep looking at Southern Miss sports. We will continue to break down the football team and take a look at who and where they will see playing time in 2020. While recruiting has stopped, we will also take a look at what Southern Miss needs and who is available for Southern Miss to recruit. Today, we will continue our look at the 2020 Golden Eagle defense headed into spring practice and what newcomers might make a difference this upcoming season.

Southern Miss Football: Mount Rushmore

When looking for a school that produces hard nosed, tough, blue collar football players, you do not have to look no farther than Southern Miss. It was very difficult to narrow down the greats who have played football for the Golden Eagles down to 4. We had to take into account not only their college career, but their career in the pros. (This was the most difficult to make of any sport at Southern Miss.) These are not in any certain order and doesn't take active players into account.
