ULM vs Southern Miss Postgame Presser Quick Hits.....

Malone:
Rebounding was the biggest thing we did better in the 2nd half.
At half playing better team D was the big emphasis.
When we were cold shooting, we still played solid defense.
Feels great to win back to back games.

Draine:
Wasn't paying attention to the 3 record, which i why he didn't shoot that at the end, wanted to run off clock.
1st half the offense wasn't in rhythm, 2nd half we started to find the rhythm
Mixed emotion about the break, but we have momentum so there are mixed feelings about that.
I feel like we are coming together. With lack of preseason it has taken some time for us to come together.

Coach Ladner:
Proud of defensive effort. Offense was not good.
Harris was outstanding against ULM's best player. Outstanding effort by him tonight.
Hardy was solid tonight, he was able to score when no one else could. He was able to keep us in the game.
We were more patient on offense in the 2nd half. In the 1st half we were out of control.
We work hard in defense every day, we are so young and new, we need our defense to carry us early on.
We are still trying to figure things out on offense.
Ladner has mixed feelings about the break coming up. Most D! players don't get to go home for Christmas. I want our players to go home. Unfortunately we are playing better, but now the kids get to go home. We are going to have to come back ready to play.
Fisher was more of a PG and passer, Draine is more of a scorer. Difference between the 2.
I feel we are a B on defense. We are a D on offense. We are a C when it comes to inbound and out of bound plays or what it calls special teams. The offense rest on my shoulders and it will get better.

Who are our biggest rivals?

Since 2014, we—the students and professors of the Know Rivalry Project—have been answering this question for sports in the North America with the help of message board members. Now we are expanding our research to college football. Please help us ensure that the Golden Eagles are included by taking 9 minutes to complete our updated survey:

Our previous results in the US have been featured in numerous sports media outlets, as well as the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. You can view those results, links to media coverage, and learn more about us at our KnowRivalry.com website.

We use the Qualtrics online survey software for data collection. This academic research has been approved by two US universities' Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and it poses no risks to respondents. Interesting Point Coach Hall Made Yesterday.....

He was quick to point out that this recruiting/signing class could not have been done without Reed Stringer. Reed has been here for a few years now, just makes one wonder why he wasn't involved in the recruiting process more. He obviously is very good at it. Just another decision that makes one scratch their head at decisions made by the former HC.

Hall gets it and has it!

Noticed on the press conference regarding recruits that Hall ended it by saying to the media..."y'all have my number, call me if you need something". He praised all the coaches from whom he recruited their players. He talked positive about Southern Miss similar to how Fedora would, but actually came across more believable as he has walked the Mississippi path and speaks our language. He knows our past and what we are capable of accomplishing. He comes across as genuine and truthful. I was skeptical about Hall based not on facts but due to the posts about his dad's opinions. Will Hall seems to be excited to be here, excited for what lies ahead, and has the skill sets needed to get us there. He will personally change the opinions of sports writers, Mississippi high school coaches, USM fans, and SEC fans toward our Southern Miss to a more positive view. He is a winner and has the it factors that we've all been looking forward to having as the face of our program. He was the type player that we have succeeded with - overlooked, a chip on his shoulder and a drive to prove others wrong. I think he'll recruit and coach with that "I've got to prove you wrong by beating you attitude". Let the good times roll.

Tee Webb

Awesome signing day surprise for us. Transfer from Louisville with 4 years to play. Big time arm talent. From same high school as Trevor Lawrence. This is the most talent Southern Miss has ever brought in at the QB position in a class.

Rivals Star Ratings

I have never understood the rating Rivals assign to recruits. Can someone explain to me why Tee Wee and Ty Keyes are not 4-star players? The same applies to some of our other recruits. Look at the schools that were recruiting these guys. Someone said the rating has to do with whether they are ready to play or not. I know it really doesn't matter but it is the principal of the thing.

Coach Hall Signing Day Presser Quick Notes

We had a nice day all around, especially in the state.
We will be a QB centered/driven program. We got 2 good ones. Webb will be here in January. He is a winner who can run and throw. Keys is a legend in the state. He is a winner as well. We got 2 top 30 QB's in the nation.
Franks and Pittman from Magee are special, can both play at WR. Mays at Ridgeland is a guy we really loved. Robinson is good skilled athlete from Petal.
OL McCloud from Green County, if this was a normal year, he would have blown up as a recruit.
Tannehill is a great kicker, made pressure kicks, he brings a level of security to that position.
Edwards in almost unblock able on the DL. Cunningham has a long standing relationship with me. They will be impact players immediately.
Toles out of Lafayette County, is a great player.
It is a smaller class, we are at 11 now, but will add 3 more. Will probably be OL and DL.
10 of the 11 kids have ties to Mississippi.
We have a lot to sell here. Tradition, winning, being coached the right way. That is what kids want.
Reed Stringer was excellent to getting this class together.
We need some more Tackles to come in and compete and play.
We are only gonna have 1 or 2 guys not coming back.
Population increase in South Mississippi is leading to more FBS players in South Mississippi.
All high school kids will be Summer enrollees, all the transfers will be here in January.
Me and Ty have a special relationship and that is what got him here.
Chandler was a good fit here all the way around. There is a system he needs to flourish in and he can in ours.
Franks could be the next great WR here at Southern Miss.
We felt like we were in good shape at WR, the thing was it was a great WR class in Mississippi High School Football.
We got some guys in the WR room that may get a few carries at RB, that will affect our scheme next season.
