Supporting Information for Hitter of the Week Nominee: Reed Trimble, a freshman from Brandon, Miss., finished the week with a .500 batting average (8x16) and hit safely in three of four games at Florida Atlantic. After starting off 0x3 in the opening game, Trimble went 6-for-8 in the Saturday doubleheader. In the opening game, he went 2x4 including a three-run homer. His home run added to a three-run second inning that gave the Golden Eagles the early advantage. He added a double to lead off the seventh and later scored to give the visitors one of two insurance runs in the final inning. In the nightcap, Trimble went 4-x4 including a double and two home runs to go along with a career-best seven RBI – one shy of trying a school record. It was his second two-homer game of the season. He doubled in his first at bat and then blasted a three-run homer in the fourth to help Southern Miss erase a 4-3 deficit, giving them a 6-4 lead en route to a five-run inning. Trimble opened the sixth with his second homer and later singled in the frame to drive home his final run of the contest. In the Sunday contest, Trimble homered in his second at bat, a two-run shot, to give him a team-leading 14 homers this season. He added a single and scored later in the contest. He was good on all five fielding chances over the weekend.

Supporting Information for Pitcher of the Week Nominee: Walker Powell, a senior from Fayetteville, Ark., tossed his fifth complete game of the season as he defeated Florida Atlantic 6-1 in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader. Powell, who threw a no-hitter in his previous outing, got the first eight hitters out to extend his streak to 26-straight batters retired before giving up back-to-back hits that accounted for the Owls lone run. After that, the Owls managed just two more singles and a double as Powell did not walk a batter and fanned seven in the contest. The win was the 29th for Powell, who tied Darrell Lindsey (1985-88) for the second most wins in school history as he also ranks No. 1 among career active leaders in the NCAA. It also marked the 10th complete game for Powell in his career. This season Powell is 9-2 in 12 starts with five complete games – one complete-game no-hitter and two other combined shutouts.
Notes
* Southern Miss and Pete Taylor Park were chosen as one of 20 potential regional host sites on Friday. Should the Golden Eagles earn a regional host spot, it will be the third time that they have hosted in its history. The other two times came in 2003 and 2017.
* The Golden Eagles played 10 doubleheaders during the 2021 season, sweeping five and splitting five, going 15-5 on days in which they played two games.
* Southern Miss has won at least 35 games in each of its last seven FULL seasons.
* The Southern Miss pitching staff finally surrendered its 100th walk of the year in its 50th game of the season. The squad is allowing just 2.08 walks per game and are on pace to give up the fewest walks since the 1980 season when that team allowed 101.
* With three quality starts this weekend, the Golden Eagles now have 27 to their credit this season – nine for Hunter Stanley, seven each for Walker Powell and Ben Ethridge and four for Drew Boyd.
* Hunter Stanley went over the 100-strikeout mark for the season last Friday and now has 105 for the year. He is the first Golden Eagle pitcher to hit the century mark since Nick Sandlin, now of the Cleveland Indians, posted 144 in 2018.
