Looking at CUSA Standings...

If the Eagles finish .5 games behind or tied with La Tech at the end of the season, then that game we lost at UTSA because of weather wouldn't need to be made up. However, if USM finished the season .5 games ahead of La Tech, then USM might have to make up that game at UTSA. It would decide which team get a 1st round bid in the tournament. There is that week before the conference tournament. It might actually be a good thing to play a game or 2 that week to stay sharp. You thoughts about this??

Tickets to baseball game vs MTSU are available...

The Southern Miss baseball team continues their homestand this weekend when they take on the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in a four game series. Game one of the series is set for 6:00pm this evening. The teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow with the first game beginning at 2:00pm; after the first game tomorrow, the student athletes of the 2021 senior class will be recognized for their contributions to the baseball program. The series finale will begin at 1:00pm on Sunday. All four of this weekend's games will be broadcast free on CUSA.tv.
A limited number of single game tickets are available for this weekend's game. First priority will be given to individuals who are on the waiting list for baseball season tickets. There will be an additional release of student tickets while limited individual game tickets will be made available for advanced sale.
Individual game tickets will be sold only during the week of scheduled contests and will be available Monday at 8:00am through Friday at noon each week. No tickets will be sold at facility box offices on gameday.

Additionally, the Southern Miss Athletics Department reminds fans that athletics venues will observe CDC guidelines and will continue to ask fans to follow the current rules put in place during the pandemic:
  • Face coverings will be required for all patrons to enter and exit the stadium and at all times when patrons are "in transit" within the concourse, elevators, restrooms and concession sales areas. Face coverings will be recommended and encouraged in seating areas. All credentialed game day workers and employees will wear face coverings at all times.
    • Exceptions include children under 6 years old or for medical or behavioral conditions.
  • To the extent possible, all transactions will be contactless or touchless such as mobile ticketing, contactless ticket scanning, cashless concession sales, etc.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be placed at gate entrances and at multiple locations throughout the stadium.
As a reminder, the clear bag policy will be enforced. Fans are allowed one clear plastic bag no larger than 12x6x12 inches, or a one-gallon, resealable clear plastic storage bag, per person will be admitted into the athletic venue. Fans will also be allowed a small clutch purse not to exceed 4.5x6.5 inches. No pets are allowed in the facility.

USM Baseball vs. Southeast Louisiana Live Game Thread....

According to USM Game Notes Wehunt is starting off on the mound tonight. It will probably be Johnny Wholestaff after that to get some needed work in. SEL are 25-15 this season and no pushover. Eagles need more wins in the midweek games.

Supporting Information for Hitter of the Week Nominee: Charlie Fischer led the Golden Eagles over the weekend in a series win over Rice in Houston. He reached base in all four games, walking in the first game. He finished with two walks over the weekend and now has 34 walks which is among the nation’s leaders. He then registered multiple-hit games in the final three contests of the Rice series as he finished with a 8x15 week for a .533 batting average. He collected two hits with a double and three RBI against the Owls in the second game of the twinbill. He added a 2x5 game three with two doubles and two RBI while finishing the weekend with a 4x5 day – his season high for hits - to finish the week with a .533 batting average (8x15, 5 doubles, 7 RBI). Fischer leads the team in batting average with a .358 average with 11 doubles, six homers and 30 RBI. His seven RBI accounted for almost a fourth of the runs scored over the weekend by the Golden Eagles, who tallied 30 in the series.

Supporting Information for Pitcher of the Week Nominee: Ben Ethridge, the reigning C-USA Pitcher of the Week, posted his second consecutive seven-inning shutout performance, tying his season career-high longest outing. He limited Rice to just four hits, hit a batter and two walks, while fanning seven. Ethridge has not allowed a run over his last two starts spanning 14 innings while recording 18 strikeouts over that time. He did not allow a base runner past second base and he has won his last four outings. In his 10 starts this season, Ethridge has pitched at least six innings on six different occasions. The Golden Eagles went on to win the contest 10-1.



Notes
* After getting shut out in the opening game of the Rice series, the Golden Eagles outscored the Owls 30-3 over the final three contests, winning their fifth series in 15 tries over Rice, including their third at Reckling Park and first there since 2017. Southern Miss has now won five of the last six games over Rice.

* The Golden Eagles registered back-to-back double-digit run outings for the second time this season as the put together 10-plus runs for the eighth and ninth time this season.
* Southern Miss is one win shy of recording their 19-straight 30-or-more win season, which ranked sixth-best at the start of the 2021 season.

* While Charlie Fischer recorded his first four-hit game of the season, Danny Lynch also tallied his second four-hit game, while Blake Johnson added his second-three hit game as well versus the Owls.

* Southern Miss improved to 22-4 when they score first in a game this season and are 309-76-1 under Scott Berry when they do that.

I was excited when Southern Miss basketball offered this JC player the other day...

However, since Southern Miss has offered him 5 additional schools have offered him including New Mexico. He states on his Twitter that he will not commit until May 1st so we will have to wait to find out how it goes for Southern Miss.
