A Recruit, a Ham, $100 and some sweet sweats

Rather than to try and decipher the vague references being made on the Plumlee thread that allude to a 40 year old recruiting scandal, I thought that I’d research and share with the entire board.

Now, we all know more about Southern Miss football history.

Additions to the 2022 football roster.

Cooley's addition (I wonder if he is related to Trevis Cooley) makes four 3-star transfer-in players. The list of recruits contains six 3-star players and (I believe Lewis should be rated a 3-star as well) would be seven 3-star players. That makes 11 coming in at this point. So we still have 6 or 7 spaces left for recruits. I know transfer-in players don't count as recruits; however, it doesn't take away the fact that we have eleven. I believe we will have a very good year.

Lowe ??

In case he does leave, we could be in trouble. No one believes seriously Brennan will transfer to USM. The present roster does not include a QB that can step up and have positive results. Mainly because they do not have needed experience. They must have a great Spring. Lowe may be able to do an adequate job but we need a proven QB to run the offense. So, if we are lacking in a skilled player, the portal or transfer in must take place. I expect the OL to improve and that is a must.

I expect this to happen...

From the c-USA board...
Some La Tech fan...

A petition was started to move the upcoming CUSA Baseball tournament from Hattiesburg. I signed this petition earlier today and felt it needed to be shared on this forum. I've been a proponent of moving the tournament since Southern Miss. announced their departure to the Sunbelt. Thankfully a fellow Louisiana Tech fan felt the same way and started this petition.

As the petition states, "Hosting a conference championship brings a substantial economic impact to the community and school that is hosting." Simply put, Southern Miss. should not remain as the host of the upcoming CUSA baseball tournament since they're abandoning the conference

State of the USM Athletics Year End.

Since the board is so lively, I thought it might be fun to look back on the year and make some new year predictions.

Football- Everything was Rosey after Spring practice. Many predicted an eight-game win season, but a rain cloud appeared over the team and never disappeared. ESPN could do a special on the QB disastrous situation during the year. What about next year? I think this coming year, it appears WH had made some nice additions. His defense will be as good or better than last year. The offense may be a different story. The final additions to the roster will tell the tale. The critical position will be at QB. As of now, we are relatively sure Lowe will not be at the QB position, so what is the scenario? Are we going to depend on a great potential player (with limited experience) in Keyes or an incoming Freshman to handle the chore? I do not see adequate backups on the roster. The QB position is the most important in football, and I hope WH will find an experienced player in the portal. The OL is another area that proved to be the downfall last year. How will that shape up for next year? Fortunately, we have six or seven spots left to fill. I would hope at least four will be selected as OL. I don't look for any improvement in that area with the present roster.

Basketball-Last year was not what we expected. It was similar to football when expectations were high, and it did not turn out very well. The same can be said for the current year. The need was clearly in obtaining guys that could score points from 15 feet and out, but the selection of players that would remedy the situation did not happen. So what is the scenario? Things are reasonably bleak and will only improve when the coach and staff can solve the scoring problem.

Baseball_ With losing the two top pitchers in which the game is most dependent, no one really knows.
