OT - Alabama LB in portal headed to Ark St

Alabama has lost a number of players, including four-star linebacker King Mwikuta, to the transfer portal since their championship loss to Georgia this past Monday night.

Alabama isn’t the only program experiencing such turnover. Even Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are losing players left and right to the portal. It’s just the current state of college football.

Mwikuta, meanwhile, has made a decision on where he’ll be playing football later this fall.

The former four-star linebacker is heading to the Sun Belt to play for Arkansas State.

“Holy hell. #AState has landed Alabama transfer and former unanimous four-star LB King Mwikuta,” writes Mitchell Gladstone of Arkansas Online. “He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining after playing in 13 games this season with 1 tackle for loss.”

Scholarship Numbers For Football

I know some of you have asked how many scholarship players are on the team and if they can still add some. This is somewhat confusing, so I will try and break this down for you.

As of right now (this is with signing class and transfers) the team has 83 of 85 (full amount allowed by the NCAA) scholarships filled. The ream can pick up 2 more scholarship players (this would have to be done over the summer by NCAA rules) and you can add them to next year's recruiting class.(robbing Peter to pay Paul) How many they sign depends on graduation, attrition, etc. but each recruiting class you want to sign 24 or 25 players. So, they can still add a transfer QB over the summer and he can play next season.

I hope this answers some of your questions about the numbers. If you have anymore please ask.

Basketball Question For Everyone

Ladner's teams have not finished higher than 7th (2020-2021) in the Western division of CUSA since his arrival. He inherited a really bad situation when he arrived, then even had to deal with Covid while trying to rebuild a team. However, so has other schools and that is no excuse. There is no upward trajectory in this program. Yes, he lost Hardy for the season, but LA Tech lost a stud early this season and has not looked back. With things seem to me moving towards leaving CUSA this Spring, is it time to make a move? I ask you all this.

Lowe, what if he stays?

Heath has said there is a possibility he will stay and may move to QB instead of TE. If so, that would certainly help that position. He most likely would be the starter. A number of people have stated they do not have faith in him but he has not had a lot to work with. Remember, he was under duress on almost every play and Gore was hit in the backfield a great number of times. No running game did not help him. He does have experience. Would he be an outstanding QB most likely not but what other choice do we have? Keyes needs to be able to develop and this would give him a chance to do so. Perhaps this is what WH is thinking.

WH's plan not yet revealed.

There is a great deal of mystery surrounding this recruiting season, with only one spot left for this or the late signing period. The OL was poor last year, so why were so many DL players recruited? Could it be that Hall has consulted with Gregg and Armstrong and determined some of them would fit as OL players or was he thinking we would be in a good position with the present lineup?

And then the real mystery is the QB question. Was Lowe told he would not be the starter next year, so he changed positions, or was lowe tired of being hit? Is Hall putting all of his cards on Keyes even though he is still a gifted Freshman for all practical purposes? Indeed he is aware the present roster does not include a QB that can take his place, or does it? Could he be thinking of moving Willis or some other roster member to QB? Stranger things have happened.

Is it his plan to run the super back offense with some variations and supplement it with the standard QB pass/run game? I would tend to believe that is it. But, if so, how will holes open for the run and pass protection hold up? Can it be with the present OL???

It will only be in the Spring, perhaps when the mystery could be solved.
