QB Billy Wiles talks transfer from Clemson to Southern Miss

So far in this recruiting cycle, the Golden Eagles have inked four quarterbacks (two transfers/two high school). There is no question that Head Coach Will Hall wants to create competition in the Spring. Iron sharpens iron and that is what Hall hopes happens in this quarterback room.

The game is available through the Mountain West Network. The app can be downloaded on a Roku or other similar devices or is available in the Apple App Store. I wasn't sure if you have to pay to watch like CUSA TV but I clicked on a live stream of a womens basketball game last night and it started to play so fingers crossed it is free to watch tonight. Hope we can win this one tonight, will be a very good measuring stick going into conference play next week.

Meeting USM's newest LB Kolbe Cage, a transfer from Arizona

For the second year in a row, Southern Miss head coach Will Hall heavily relied on the transfer portal ahead of the early National Signing Day. Transfers such as Daylen Gill and Bryce Ramsey made their presences felt in the LendingTree Bowl as newcomers to the program, and starting quarterback Trey Lowe was a former transfer in his own right.

Added 23 kids, most will be enrolling in January.

4 needs, LB, DB, TE

Held spots open for future portal and high school guys.

Staff did an incredible job.

Now this program is piecing in players and adding depth where as last season we were just trying to add numbers.

They were able to expand footprint in recruiting.

Maybe could add 7 to 8 more. Will have to be elite to add those. Will have to fit culture.

Competition in QB room will be better with the guys who are coming in.

Finding a Tackle is a developmental position. Those guys rarely start but develop over time.

Luke Rogers is a guy who can come in and play Center immediately. A Coach's son who is football smart and will pick up this system quickly.

Thoughts on bowl win over Rice...

1. We saw greatness and something special from Gore Jr. Yes the OL did a good job of blocking, but a few of those long runs were him making the first guy miss and having DB's out there doing the moonwalk trying to tackle him.

2. The defense still had laps in judgement throughout the game but stood tall when needed at the end. Don't know what it is about the Golden Eagles being up 2 TD's that causes the defense to get lackadaisical, but it happens. Gill was a beast. He is the best portal pick-up that Hall and Armstrong have made. He saved this defense when injuries to Maples amd Bozeman happened early in the season.

3.Special Teams was solid. Briggs and Mason were both good. Lange needs some props for handling bad snaps. He saved so many points this season. Holding is a hard task and a thankless position.

4. Lowe was what this team needed at the right time. It didn't need a QB to win games just manage it, and that is what he did. All why going toward his doctorate, mighty impressive young man.

5. Hall and staff took over a team with 62 scholarship players and won 3 games in 2021. Scholarship numbers are up at 82 but still now at full strength and they won 7 games this season. That is progress and that shows momentum is in the Golden Eagles' corner.

6. Time to use this bowl win as a platform to make a push in recruiting. Don't be shocked if another QB is taken from the portal. Look for a few OL and another DB as well. Should be fun to watch.

Heck of a season, thanks for having fun with us. Hope you all enjoyed the coverage. Now, on to basketball. Southern Miss is 11-1 with a trip to UNLV Thursday. We used to say, "let's get ready for baseball." Not this season.....

I went to the restroom and I still cant believe the versions Im hearing. Nobody is that classless. Rice has never been good anything since Baseball fell apart, but I thought they had a little class
