I know a significant number of you remember when that day was filled with excitement. Remember the crawfish boils by the M Club before the games? Tasty crawfish, boiled potato, and corn on the cob. It was a trifecta lunch, the Spring game, and the baseball game.
Except for kickoffs and punt returns, it was a real game. One assistant coach would coach the black team and one the gold team. Real referees. It was exciting for the players as well. As they headed to the dressing room, I heard Tommy Waters and one of the DBs talking trash.
It gave us fanatic Eagle fans a good taste of football during the long void. We could see for ourselves most every aspect of the game and the potential of all the players. Articles regarding the game appeared in newspapers. It was a great event which is now lost.
Most say things changed to reduce the possibility of injuries, but I say our players back then were tough and could have held the game on Hwy 49.
