I'm thrilled. I remember when he was here, I was at a basketball game and saw him sitting alone. Visited with him for about 20 minutes and he was most appreciative of being in Hattiesburg. He comes from good stock. He's an Ole Miss guy but how can you not be in awe of what he's done at Alcorn. It took a hell of a lot of grit for him to take the job. I feel he will prosper here and hope he makes the next step to a bigger job, knowing we have to be wildly successful for him to do that. I'll take that. USM will never be an end-point job, not with our budget, location, and conference. I'm proud of Fedora and Monken, they did well here and moved on. I can't blame them, it is about $$ and going forward. Any one of us would do the same. I attended our University during our glory years (79-83) but understand we'll never be what we were then. We were left behind with conference realignment. The SEC is so much richer than it was then and we have to accept that we'll never be at the same financial level as OM and MSU. Just the truth. We'll make waves, but not be able to acquire the level of talent that the SEC pays for. Accepting this, I appreciate the athletes we have. They are not primadonnas, just good blue collar athletes busting their ass to prove they were overlooked, but this is who we have always been. Overachievers who we love.
