The Defense
As I have mentioned, it has been plagued with injuries, and players have missed Spring action while rehabbing from injuries from last year. Mike position WKU transfer Dez Baker and Miss State transfer DT Jonathon Davis are examples. All players are expected to be ready in the Fall.
I suppose the big question is when the Nasty Bunch will return after years of dormancy. Let's look at some of the old and new players and see if the question has been answered.
One of the most improved players is Dylan Lawrence. He has been awesome this Spring. Bignell has moved him to the stinger position for more presence in the box. Miles Jones will be behind Lawrence. M.J Daniels has been moved from corner to safety.
New DL coach Fred Wyatt may be sitting on a gold mine. NT Jalen Williams has had a fantastic Spring and Demeco Roland and Jonathan Davis will provide depth. DE Broderius Lewis and Kristin Booth are Solid DT Armondous Cooley will lead the charge with a recuperating Cam Mackey in the mix. Also, Fr Caleb Moore and four other Freshmen are learning the position. Moore may be red-shirted.
CBs Will most likely be Braxton Meyers and Will James, with Ques McNeal and Wildrekus Johnson playing well.
Buck position Jalil Clemons and Jameer Lewis are stars. Eric Thomas has put a lot of pressure on the QB. MLB Arian Gregory has been a pleasant surprise. Tre Pinckney, Jordan Johnson, J. Jones, Ja’Len Sims, Tre’Mon Henry, and Kolbe Cage are players who were cited and expected to be major factors in the defense.
This roster is deep and will prevent fourth-quarter letdowns like we have had in the past. Is this the return of the “Nasty Bunch?” Time will tell, but one thing is for sure: It will be as close to it as we have seen in a long time.
