Launch of “Inside Southern Miss Athletics” Podcast Announced

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Department of Athletics announced Friday morning a new, free podcast platform called "Inside Southern Miss Athletics, powered by Learfield-IMG College."

Each Wednesday, starting April 15, a podcast will be released with the Voice of the Golden Eagles, John Cox, conducting various interviews with Southern Miss former and current Golden Eagles student-athletes, Athletic Department personnel and other special guests weekly.

In addition, more content is expected to be available through this platform, including Classic Game Broadcasts. The classic games start today, April 10, with the Golden Eagles come-from-behind victory over Arizona State in the 2019 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. A new baseball game will be added each Friday over the next several weeks.

Wisconson Has Decided Not.....

....to seek extra eligibity for their Spring sport athletes. AD cited log jam with new athletes coming and extra costs of the scholarships. I think it boils down to the Spring sports are not revenue producers for them (Baseball). It looks like Iowa will go the same route. Each school makes its own decision to grant extra eligibility. Probably most schools will be facing budget shortfalls next year.

Because of the virus, is it time for a more regional conference???

I think so! Just think of the savings for travel expenses. What teams get in? My list... Southern Miss (has fans that care), Troy (has fans that care & it's leadership is tied to USM's leadership), Louisiana (I believe, much like USM fans), La Tech (has fans that care), Ark St. (has fans that care), Rice (has strong academics & money), Texas St. (has fans that care).

Could we get Army to join for football only. They would not have travel issues & would draw fans interest when they visit conference members stadiums. Just a thought.

Estonian Mark Jaakson excited to play basketball at Southern Miss

The 2020 recruiting class for Coach Ladner and the Southern Miss basketball team is starting to fill out. Not only is Coach Ladner and staff getting high quality players, but they are bringing in guys who can contribute immediately. Mark Jaakson is one of those commits who is ready to play now. The 6'7 220 lbs F from Estonia has the size and speed to make a difference immediately. Another who can shoot from outside with his face facing or with his back to the basket. Jaakson is the 2nd recruit to Southern Miss Get Better Academy in Prague, the first being Artur Konontsuk. Mark stated he will be signing on April 15th.
