Southern Miss dug themselves a deep hole early with turnovers but came back to win...

Fumbling away the opening kickoff is not a good way to start a game.

Here is who we know will "probably" return next week.

Tate and Jack should both be back and look for Tate to get many more snaps than he usually does. Both QB's will get playing time.

Foxy should be back.

Tim Jones should play. I think he could have played, but no reason to chance him when so many CUSA games left.

Gore Jr has turf toe. That is a nagging injury, but should be OK and will probably be limited this week.

That is all I know as of now. Will let u know more when I find out.

Report Card

Well, no report card last weekend because honestly, there wasn’t much to report. Here’s my take on yesterday’s effort:

Overall-C
Offense-D
Defense-A
Special Teams-D
Coaching-C
The defense kept us in this one. UNA had under 200 yards total offense, 13 points and only 11 first downs. Hayes and Latham are contributing at a high level every weekend and it was enough to hold off a much less talented opponent. Offense had 3 turnovers and only 100 yards passing; but, 245 rush yards was the winner yesterday. Congrats to Gore/Mayberry/Perkins for a job well done. Turnovers (4) kept this from being a blow out. Special teams allowed an early UNA touchdown and had a blocked field goal plus an out of bounds kickoff. In a close game, this would have cost us a win.
Billings said all the right things during his walk off interview after the first half, and it looked like they (coaching staff) made the necessary adjustments to win! If the defense, who has put together 6 straight good quarters, keeps playing well and we can get everyone back on offense next weekend, we may keep it respectable against WKU. Have a great week,
‘Stead

Golden Eagle Nation Lost A Good One....

Dennis Bohannon, a big USM supporter and mainstay at Golden Eagle sporting events passed away last night. He did the stats for West Jones and passed away at his home after getting back from Brookhaven. He was a great man and a friend to many. He will be missed!!! For all on here who went to West Jones and played sports in Jones County, he was a beloved figure!! Pray for his family during this difficult time!!!

Who is in and who is not for UNA game....

Here is what we know:
Tate and Jack Abraham are both out due to concussions.
Timmy Jones had a good week of practice, will play, but Hammy is still bothering him.
Coker is probably out, Not sure about Foxy. Doss and Scott will probably play the Guards of Foxy can't go.
Sykes should be back. Injury not as bad as they first thought.
Clopton will be back at Center.

This is what I know at this time. Continue to keep checking for updates.

Southern Miss radio mentioned a very weird fact about the North Alabama QB today...

He played vs Southern Miss back in 2016 when he was at Savannah State.

North Alabama is a "gut check" moment for Southern Miss FB

The Golden Eagles are set to host the Lions of North Alabama Saturday at 2 PM on ESPN3. The lions are an FCS Independent who will be playing only their 3rd game in 2020 due to Covid. They are 0-2 with loses to Liberty (28-7) and Jacksonville State (24-17 ) and are scheduled to play BYU (11/21) after their Saturday contest at Southern Miss to wrap up their 4 game season in 2020.

How many coaches at Southern Miss will Scotty Walden hire?

Right now I am not sure there will be any has he has already hired 2 with no background at Southern Miss. I am curious as to the reason or reasons why or why not. Did the AD place the rest of the coaches at Southern Miss off-limits for the remainder of the season? Do the other Southern Miss coaches not want to work for Walden? Does Walden not want to hire anyone from Southern Miss? Is it a money issue at Austin Peay?
