Team Notes

* The Golden Eagles scored in the opening frame in all three games of the UL Lafayette series, improving to 6-0 this season when they score in the opening inning and also own that mark when they score first.

* The series sweep for the Golden Eagles was the first over the Ragin’ Cajuns in Hattiesburg since Feb. 16-18, 2001. It also marked the first three-game sweep of an opponent since taking every game from Murray State since the opening series of 2020.

* Southern Miss won its fifth-straight game on Sunday, the longest winning streak for the program since capturing nine consecutive wins from April 19-May 1, 2019.

* In the series finale, Reed Trimble blasted an 11th-inning, walk-off grand slam giving the Golden Eagles their 20th walk-off win since the start of the 2017 season. It was the first walk-off homer since Matt Wallner hit the game winner against Rice in the C-USA Tournament on May 22, 2019. It also was the first Golden Eagle walk-off grand slam since Jeff Cook lifted the team over Louisiana Tech on March 1, 2003.

* Southern Miss scored 12 of its 13 runs after two were out in the series opener Friday night against the Ragin’ Cajuns.
* The Golden Eagle pitching staff fanned 36 and walked two –one of which was intentional – in the series and now have fanned 10 or more batters in 11 of 14 games this season. They have also fanned nine twice.

* Christopher Sargent belted his first career grand slam for the Golden Eagles in the eight-run second inning in Friday’s opener. It was the most runs scored by the Golden Eagles in an inning since registering 12 against Arizona State in the opening game of the 2091 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional (5/31).

* Closer Garrett Ramsey now is 4-for-4 in save opportunities this season after getting the final three outs in Saturday’s contest.
