Athletic director Eric Wood told The News-Star on Friday that Louisiana Tech will place a bid to host an NCAA baseball regional and potentially a super regional.
An NCAA memo sent to administrators detailed plans to have predetermined sites to combat COVID-19.
Bids are due to the NCAA by Monday. Baseball regional sites will be announced the week of May 10, two weeks before the end of the regular season

Dear Southern Miss Fans,

A limited number of bleacher seats still remain for this weekend's baseball series vs. UAB! Tickets are $12 each and must be purchased in advance.

Additionally, the Southern Miss Athletics Department reminds fans that athletics venues will observe CDC guidelines and will continue to ask fans to follow the current rules put in place during the pandemic:
  • Face coverings will be required for all patrons to enter and exit the stadium and at all times when patrons are "in transit" within the concourse, elevators, restrooms and concession sales areas. Face coverings will be recommended and encouraged in seating areas. All credentialed game day workers and employees will wear face coverings at all times.
    • Exceptions include children under 6 years old or for medical or behavioral conditions.
  • To the extent possible, all transactions will be contactless or touchless such as mobile ticketing, contactless ticket scanning, cashless concession sales, etc.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be placed at gate entrances and at multiple locations throughout the stadium.
For questions, call the Southern Miss Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK.

We look forward to seeing you at The Pete this weekend!

Interesting thoughts from Coach Berry

I asked him in the Presser this morning (unfortunately USM forgot to record it so I can't post) about schools using wristbands to call pitches on the mound. He said Technology is forcing trams to do this because teams are stealing signals by watching broadcast. They are using the CF camera. Stealing signs is OK if you do it during the game and don't use cameras or binoculars. This used to be one of those unwritten rules of baseball. I guess after the Astros incident that no one has any class anymore. He did say USM will still have catcher calling pitches.

Did anyone go to the Spring Game (scrimmage)?

Did anyone make an impression on you? How many were there? Long ago, it was almost like a real game and there were a lot of people in the stands. A 10.00 ticket bought you a crayfish plate, game entrance, and a baseball ticket. Without a live game atmosphere, there seems to be little interest and less information about what went on. There was a lot of talk about who was going to be a future standout. I remember one game when Larry Moulton had his first Spring game and turned out to be a hoss later. Interest in the football team carried into the Fall and that turned into tickets. Now it is not worth going to and even less interest.
