Thoughts on gane 3 win over UNA

USM did what they were supposed to do with inferior competition, they beat them handily.

Waldrep looked fantastic allowing 1 run on 3 hits with 11 K. He has stuff that you don't see from a Sunday starter. When he's on, he is hell on hitters.

Offense was much better on Sunday. Fischer still has not got a hit. He has got to get that bat going in the 5 hole.

Ewing looks more comfortable at the plate and in LF as compared to RF.

Wilks finally got his bat going. If he can give that type of production at the bottom of the order, Montenegro will have a lot of chances to pick up RBI's in the leadoff spot.

Everyone who came out of the pen looked good. It will be interesting to see who starts on Tuesday, my guess is Hall. He only pitched 1 inning Friday.

Eagles need a win over USA. They come to the Pete Tuesday night.

Message from Heath...

Hey everybody, I hope the new year has been and will continue to be filled with happiness and joy. I want to let you all know that I apologize for the lack of articles. I have really been battling the past 6 months with my amputation. While I have been able to keep the info up the on the board and keep you up to date on the goings-on at Southern Miss, I have fell short in article writing. A lot of that was due to pain and not being able to sit up for long periods. I just want to tell everyone that I am much better and have finally gotten over the hump (as they say). I will be putting more articles out and will be staring a blog for you guys every week. Thanks for sticking with me through all of this. This site has done more to get me through than anything. I love what I do and it is a blast to do it. I have met many of you through the years and hope to meet many more in the future. What an exciting time. Baseball season has started, Spring football starts tomorrow, basketball is winding down and hey, the Ladies are in 1st place in the West. Softball has started, and track and field are a bright spot. We head to a new conference next season. I don't know about you all, but I am happy to be headed to a conference that actually has leadership and understands how to advance the perception and value of a conference. So, here's to the Spring and much more fun in the years to come. Thank you all for so much and God Bless!!!! Heath....

Thoughs on Game 2 win over UNA...

Once again the Eagles got off to a quick start which is good, but then had trouble in the middle innings getting something going. The goal is get in the opponents pen as qucik as possible and make them pay. They ran starters off, but didn't make adjustments to new pitchers.

Errors, errors, errors!! I know the scoreboard only says 4 errors, but Wilks had that ball in his glove and it should have been caught. He would agree with that. So I will say 5 errors. Add Dickerson's baserunning with his throwing error and that makes 6 in my count. Good teams do not allow teams to stay in games because of dumb plays!!!

Riggins was good on the mound and Poch was good in his 1st game. 2 newcomers did a good job of handling pitches. Riggins throwing error can't happen.

Sargent is seeing the ball well. He did strike out on a curve, let's just hope that is a one-off because he had issues with the curve all last year.

I think Paetow deserves a start in RF. He looks comfy at the plate and is an upgrade on defense.

Lynch is one of the best defensive 3rd basemen in the NCAA. He keeps his bat going and we may be seeing him play his last season at the Pete.

It's early but I am watching Fischer at DH. He is starting where he left off in the Oxford Regional and that is not good.

Ewing seems to be more comfy in LF, he was also 2 of 3 at the plate and scored.

Eagles go for the sweep tomorrow. Waldrep starting is something to keep an eye on.

A former Southern Miss signee is the leading 3-point shooter for UTEP...

SATERFIELD FROM DOWNTOWN

Jorell Saterfield is proving to be a big-time threat whether he's starting or is coming off the bench. That is especially true from 3-point range. The Ranger College transfer is leading the team in 3-point percentage (min. 30 3FGA), nailing 44.9 percent (22-49). He has made 22 three-point shots and 13 two-point field goals.
