The Boys of Summer are really at a new level. Ranked in the top 5 in most polls. Top 15 in RPI. Stats are off the chart and this team is playing together as a group more than any team I can remember in recent memories.

At this point, we are on a ride that USM fans have never been on and it is great. However, my question is: What, at this point of the season, would need to happen for this team to meet current expectations? Is it CWS or bust? Is it get to a Super Regional? Would it be a disappointment if this team is not a national seed? 🤔 What is your opinion on this?

Was listening to sports talk radio down here in Baton Rouge and they started giving Southern Miss some love while talking college baseball. They started talking about how we were first in CUSA, how we beat LA Tech (who beat LSU), and just all around how good a team we have. When talking about the strength of the pitching staff, they said that through 40 games our pitching staff has yet to reach 100 walks this season. That's unreal! Love hearing other places talk so positively about Southern Miss!

football is approaching faster each day. I am hoping the baseball success will carry over to FB. Spring practice resulted in a lot more questions than answers. The big question that went unanswered was the OL area. I believe the only comment I remember was, "the pass protection is getting better." Am I to assume rush blocking isn't any better? The Spring's # 1 line was the same as last year. We all remember that horror story. What about the two transfer guys? All I heard was they have to get used to our system. It called to mind when the basketball team had to get used to playing together. That didn't go so well. I wonder why big Matt Ryals (6'8'-331) has not made it as at least as a backup, or is he still having to learn the system?

So we are going into next season, and the only thing we know is the defense will be vital. So I am starting the prediction with a 6 and 6 record.

1. Guys seldom used on the mound pitched pretty well in relief yesterday. Rogers has the tools to really be important down the stretch. LHP who can run it up there 95 mph with movement are very rare.

2. It is good to see Gabe getting his bat back going. He has been more selective at the plate and it is showing.

3. Paetow will be special. He is getting better and better. He has all the tools to be a high draft pick.

4. It has been the bottom of the order that has shown up the past 5 or 6 games. That is great to see.

5. There was no panic in this club. Last few games the Eagles trailed early and come back to win. That shows maturity.

6. Rice coming in this weekend. Can't afford to lose a game to them with an RPI in the 200's.

Sixth-ranked Southern Miss will look to carry momentum through another conference weekend.
