No real groundbreaking analysis here.
The entirety of the order has to have a better day at the plate. Three guys I look at that need to step up:
Will McGillis - Lynch (in front of Will in the order) is swinging it as well as he has in 2022. McGillis needs to catch one or two for power as he had men on base (and likely will tonight) in majority of his appearances.
Carson Paetow - he looked awfully uncomfortable outside of his first AB. He’ll come up in at least one big spot in this game and he has to come through.
Reece Ewing - not the only one, but Ewing’s gone cold at the wrong time. Particularly with Sargent hurting behind him in the order, Ewing needs to be productive for the offense to have a chance.
On the other side of the field, free passes and errors absolutely have to be avoided.
As we saw last night, LSU punishes mistakes and cannot be given extra opportunities.
Of course, in games like this, it could very well be a reversal of all the storylines. One thing is certain, somebody has to have a big day at the plate for Southern Miss and clean baseball is a must.
