Update on QB situation....

Just jumped out of SBC Monday zoom with Hall:

Would not say what type of injury Keyes had. He said he may be back this week but not sure.
Said he didn't want to put Wilke in a pressure situation like last game. He did say he may play this week, but no decision there.
Went with Superback the whole 2nd half because they were moving the ball.
He thought the OL was much improved and played better.

Only able to get in a few questions because of being only 10 min per coach. Hope this answers some questions for you.

Superback,

First, why in the hell do we sign QB's if we aren't going to use them. Don't tell me Gore is better than Wilke. Maybe Zack can't run as fast or as quick but he is a passer and is wasted. Gore is not a QB and can't throw. Without a true Qb in the game our passing game is pure crap. We have good receivers and we don't use them. The defense knows Gore and others are run first and it showed when we couldn't even get in from the two yard line. Most of Gore passes are pure luck, and 5' 9" is not what schools look for in a QB. If this is Will Hall's offense we need to look elsewhere. Do you see Alabama, Ohio State Michigan run the super back . Hell know. They have a QB for a reason. We are going NO where with running backs running the team. Do we ask our QB's to be tackles or guards, No we don't because that is not what they were recruited for. I would not blame Zach or any others for transferring out when Will uses running back to run the offense. I think Will spends to much time on this trying to make his mark. Not at any other school he has been at has he done this. Tell me something, do you hook Secretariat up to a plow and take a jackass and enter him in the Kentucky Derby. I am beginning to think we hooked our saddle to the wrong horse. He is suppose to be a QB coach, yet he runs backs that weren't recruited for QB. Maybe he ought to talk to Saben and let him explain what and who makes a QB. and what a running back is for. I beginning to believe that we just got us another coach that says what we want to hear but is just the same as EJ, Jay Hopkins and others. Miami will slaughter us and laugh all the way to the bank. Lowe is not the answer, Zack is, and Keys is not the answer. This is not small time football where he was mister everything in high school. Even with Zack playing QB at Miami, we will lose and Zack will not look good, but it is better to let him learn than have he LB's and backfield just play the run against Gore.

I do not understand this article stating that Florida State and Miami should flee the ACC...

How Miami did last Saturday vs Bethune-Cookman...

Miami won 70 - 13 but the #1 QB for Bethune-Cookman, Jalon Jones, had a pretty good day statistically going 11 of 20 for 248 yards with 1 Int and 1 TD.

Old Dominion had a good win vs Virginia Tech last night...

Few questions/observations/rants

1) why do we not have a jumbo package with Lowe under center a backup O lineman or a D lineman at fullback to push him forward. Surely we could have gotten a yard in the first quarter and had a batter chance in the 4th OT with that package.

2) Did Keyes ever pull the ball when they ran the zone read? I never saw him do it but was sitting in end zone so he could have when they were down on other end. Pretty much negates the play if the QB never pulls it.

3) seems to me we could run a variation of superback with QB in the pistol formation and if you want to get it to Gore you motion the QB out to WR and Gore can get it but would keep the D more honest.
4) Do we really think Keyes is the answer? His one long throw was a 50/50 ball and Brownlee just battled for it.

Florida State University et al represents a check on the SEC....

My bias against FSU goes back to the 1980s when they represented USMs cheif rival. My parents divorced when I was 7, and my dad subsequently moved to Gainesville, Florida. The first summer I spent with him, he bought me a UF tshirt. Upon returning to my mother's home that fall, my neighbors were big FSU fans and told me I needed to burn the UF tshirt. Needless to say I liked FSU even less. My father and his sister both attended USM, so I also pulled for the Eagles. I can't tell you how happen I was when USM beat FSU in 1989 especially to my neighbors!
Fast forward many years and the SEC cartel became monopolous media and sports empire. To combat this cartel, teams outside had to win. Florida State, Clemson, Ohio State, and Notre Dame represent non SEC prograns that can actually chalkenge and defeat the SEC syndicate. FSU won a national championship recently with great talent and Auburn's DC he who shall not be named. Had the arrogant Auburn done some research, they would have realized what hwsnbn did to USM.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Congrats FSU for beating the SEC!

ON a positive note,

Our defense is impressive. Love him or hate him. Freeze is an offensive genius, and our defense ran with a very high motor all night and did a great job overall. (I know the containment lapses on the QB drive us all crazy I am excited about the offensive line and its improvement. We have a kicker for kickoffs into the endzone coverage was great. (Remember when the other team ran it back to the 40 all year) Our dbs yes the long one at the end of regulation hurt. made some spectacular plays. Overall special teams was very good on punts, ko and coverage and nailing that 52-53 yarder in ot was huge. I wanted this one we needed this one but not many teams are going to fumble inside the opponent three twice and then throw a pick at own 15 and win but we should have. Overall we outplayed a good team. It hurt bad I was in shock walking to the car but am optomistic going into the future. We have some FB players on this team. especially receivers we need to get the ball to

Practice Reports

There has been good coverage of the football Fall practices—much improved over the Spring and last season. I pay a lot of attention to the kids that are cited. We may have some great future players. I am very excited about the upcoming season.

While reports have been good, the response on the board regarding football is piss poor at best. Football is upon us, and the only things discussed are softball, NIL, baseball, and everything else except Giraffe hunting. If the amount of interest on this board indicates how attendance will be at the first game, a sheet will cover the crowd.

Quick Thoughts After Loss

This loss is on the Eagles. 5 TO is rarely overcome in your favor.
This game should have never went to OT.
Unless Keyes gets better, Wilke needs to take a lot of snaps in practice next week.
The team did not give up and is much better than last season. I will still say they are a year away.
Play calling was suspect at times but when you have to pivot midgame that will happen.
As bad as this hurts, they have Miami next week and they better get ready.
Defense was good at times but the 3rd string QB for Liberty was able to get outside the pocket and complete some tough passes.
We just watched a team that is used to winning vs a team that is having to learn how to win.
A lot to discuss this upcoming week.
