Please hear me out before going crazy. I am in no way advocating that the sky is falling but rather just pointing out a feeling I have had as the day moves along. Bill seemed to be real confident on naming a coach quick which leads me to believe he was confident Lindsey would take the job and we all see how that went. Now we are reeling a little bit trying to find someone. Think back to when Doc was hired...we all but had our guy locked down and in the last hours he backed out and our AD may have panicked some and Doc is here, I not knocking Doc but rather saying I hope the AD doesn't panic this time and make a bogus hire. I still have faith but as the day wears on this feeling became stronger.

....First, he was fired at Auburn. A school with all the resources in the world. Second, did anyone see UNC's defense last year? They were flay out horrible. If this is what we end up with, shame on us. We deserve what we get, just like when we hired EJ. JMHO

Arkansas State kept getting tired of having their HCs leave, so they added a hefty buyout. I'm guessing that we didn't do that...this situation reminds me of the Farmer's commercial we're everyone's expecting the Jack to come out of the box, but instead the box is hit by space junk...

His defenses are not performing at the "Nasty Bunch" level of old, but given the rules changes, the modern offenses, and the fact NO one performs at those levels anymore he has done a yeoman's job as DC.

But, my central point is that we need staff stability and player-recruit stability for program stability and Dave offers us this. 7 years at USM coaching at a high level means something to me.He has the respect of the other staff members, the players, and the USM community. He is ready to be a head coach and I hope he gets the job.

going to be a head coach we just need to take a moment regroup. We just don't need to make some knew jerk reaction. I wanted a coach last night but it needs to be the right one. If it takes until the end of the week so be it.

Any word on who is "minding the stable"?. Are the assistant coaches talking to the recruits in an effort to keep them or are they too disenchanted to care any longer. As for a coach, don't care who we choose as long as he is a great recruiter.

Other than chip lindsey .How could we even do that ? New guy would just come in without his staff? I don't see that working. Hire chip and let's move on.

Find a system that works, then work it
All the other schools will chase their tails in 4 year cycles. New coach, new system, new recruiting philosophy, success, leave; new coach, new system, ad nauseum.

BUT,
Keep the system (tweaking is fine), keep the same recruiting philosophy, and interchange head coaches that will stick with USM's system. Ala Boise.
This way, you are always wayyyy ahead of the curve. No wasted seasons, with a chance at that 4th year payoff.

This we are not smart enough to do. Or either we are not allowed to do by those in charge.

Chizik is a loser!
If he couldn't win at AU with virtually unlimited funds and the best of situations how could we possibly expect him to win at USM.
As HC he's a loser (other than taking someone else's recruits)!

We recently hired an old "loser" HC (Let's don't ever forget EJ), and Monken (a younger innovative coach) is the only reason that our program thankfully has been restored to its current winning position!!!

That would send everyone running!
