I hope, against hope I suppose, that if we hire a lower tier coach

that we don't give away the farm. Duggan, Nix, or Hopson would all come for half or so what we paid Ellis or Monken. Of those 3, I'll take Duggan any day.
The central thesis of this debacle revolves around money for staffing. If we pay the coach we want, we can't afford staff salaries, at least not the salaries of the coaches that any respectful coach would want to bring in to replace our staff... that are busting their arses to keep our signing class together.
I say hire Duggan, keep the current staff and class together, and let's see what he can do. Let's hire him with a modest salary but load the contract up with generous bonus and incentive plans that will reward him for a job well done but won't bankrupt the school if he must go... Ellis Johnson 2.0 , yikes!
Finally, at this point, it is ridiculous that we are 4 days from signing day and we have no coach. Monken screwed us, and Bill seems in over his head.

So which one is it?

Are we all part of the Twilight Zone or is this a psychological experiment by some grad student to measure the extent of extreme emotions from joy to depression all occurring within minutes of one another? I think some of you just post whatever thought comes to mind just to get the reaction from the board. Stop that! - you're creating madness and may create psychological damage that will take years to repair. Some of us are just getting out of the EJ depression and need positive thoughts to keep us grounded.:)

If we are truly down to a choice between Nix and Hop then something went way wrong with the process. I don't have any problems with Hop being named but I just don't get the Nix option when we have a DC in house ready to go that would most likely be a better choice than Nix. I am not getting on a band wagon to blame any supporters at this point in time. But if this is a PC hire driven by RB then I'm going to lose hope in our future real quickly. I have no clue to any of this but --- boy, today look less attractive for us than yesterday.

I fear McGillis is like

I fear he is like the kid that has a major project due. During the time he should be putting it together he goes on wild goose chases, changes his mind on the project several times, and at the end his parents are exasperated and finally say "just get it over with". Like all here are exasperated and want it to be over with. The question is does this kid pull a rabbit out of the hat or throw something together and crap th bed?

Just my opinion

I know some are down on BM right now, can't imagine being placed in a more difficult situation than he has been at probably the most critical time of the year. I'm no BM Kool Aid drinker, nor do I dislike him, just neutral, but his butt has to be puckered enough that you couldn't put a ten penny nail up it. I wish Monken the best, but his choice of timing is the #hits. It's not like Tampa Bay is in the effing Super Bowl and the draft is a little while off. Just my opinion.

Allow me to backtrack

A do-over because I'm hungover, if you please.

If Bennett is trying to force a candidate due to donor pressure, then I am against that totally.

Bennett may, however, be trying to get McGillis out of the fetal position.

Donors should be considered, and all else being equal, maybe even allowed some say

If McGillis is being railroaded, no matter his candidate, then my apologies, and we should absolutely hire the best candidate we can afford, according to the AD alone.

This is all so USM.
