Good Morning Golden Eagles !!!

We have much to be thankful to God for this morning.

Our football team seems to be preparing well for next season after a great performance last year. Our baseball team is ranked in the top 20. We have plenty of room to improve in basketball, but improve we will.
We have a clean program as far as we know.

This is a long way from where we were.

I don't care what the foolish may say, Jesus said we can do nothing without Him, and He knew what He was saying. Stay in touch with The Father. Indeed, He is The Light and The Way. In The Name of Jesus of Nazareth, Amen.

Mobile alumni/EC golf

Great event, no better chapter anywhere.
Sold out golf turny.
Was reported that EC is running about 400 members ahead of last year and adding folks every day. New sales people are doing a great job.

Coach Hop is an extremely motivating speaker, had everyone fired up. Doesn't shout and scream, just gives his message in a manner that you almost have to buy in!
He stated they hoped to win a Championship this year but their ultimate goal is being able to compete with anyone in the country in 3 or 4 years (and stay that good) and that they are recruiting players to get them there. He also stated that NM is even better than he thought he was and is an extradinary QB and leader.
He said he told BM that more money for the program is not what they need to get there but more butts in the stands is what will help them get there. Says the greatest atmosphere he has ever coached in was our win over TCU in Hattiesburg. Said kids want to feel the fans love and that big crowds for Eagle Walk and in the stands are huge recruiting tools.

So happy we hired him.

Others there please add to this.

La. Tech set to start 12 million dollar

Stadium upgrade, with new press box and suites added. meanwhile we are still struggling to raise 750K to finish the Bower academic center. Stuff like this really frustrates me. We seem to move at a snails pace. Hard to keep up with the competition at the pace we are able to raise funds. It scares me to think how long it would take us to raise 12 million for a project. By the by, Tech's stadium upgrades should be complete by 2017,2018 season.

I wonder how many people have changed their view on what a successful season would be as the season has moved on.

What would make this season a success?

Can we FINALLY take advantage and seize the moment!?!?

As we say every week (lol) this is a huge week for Southern Miss Baseball. But it could be more defining than even the last week of the season. We sit with a one game lead, while FAU and Rice have to play each other this week. As long as neither one sweeps, we won't have to either. However, as I stated in another post, we have a really good opportunity to put a choke on CUSA for good during the regular season.

I believe the FAU and Rice series will be won 2-1.... Our best case scenario is that it is FAU. If we can sweep this weekend, and FAU beats Rice 2-1, that will give us a two game lead going into the final week of the season.

Another way to look at it is if Rice wins 2-1, then we need a sweep. If FAU wins 2-1, then we only need to win 2-1. I know sweeping a team is not easy and also winning a series at Rice is as just as tough. But we have a good chance this week to create a little spacing. Doing this would break the curse of 1 of 2 things our sport programs have been bad at:

1. Seizing the moment (killing the fly with the sledge hammer, so others won't have a realistic chance)
2. If this weekend turn out like we hope, then we only hope we dont follow up a dream weekend, with a subpar series tilt going into the CUSA tourney.

Over the last few years, in (INSERT USM SPORT HERE), we have been right there at the finish line (in most cases leading the way) the last 2 weeks of the season..... Somehow we have always been cursed, in all of our sports, to have that sub par performance at the wrong time, costing us a share of a title, in most cases the coveted outright championship.

Heres to the baseball team finally breaking that curse for all our sports to start seizing the moment when the spotlight (national attention) is on us.

Cord Cockrell injury update

Kendall Rogers from D1baseball.com tweeted that he spoke to Scott Berry and Cockrell is out for the final two weekends of the regular season. Hope to have him back for the postseason.

Big injury news: Scotty Berry tells me @SouthernMissBSB RHP Cord Cockrell is sidelined indefinitely with shoulder soreness. Tough loss.

The hope here is that Cockrell is ready to go for the postseason. Hopefully that’s the case, as the Golden Eagles will need him. #USM

Memphis President,

Memphis President has been lobbying the Big 12 to get an invite. He is being pro-active and not sitting on his butt. Hope our Pres and AD is doing the same. The Big 12 hired a consulting group and they were told that going to 12 teams would increase their odds of being in the play offs and going to 14 teams would be good also. We are every bit as good as Memphis. The Big 12 has said in the past that they wouldn't take a school without a stadium on campus, or a basketball facility in which Memphis has neither, unless they have lowered their standards. Now we don't have the backing of Fed Ex, but we do have everything else. Location in the heart of the SEC for recruiting, close for all teams to travel to, and within a year or two our fan base and recruits will be as good as any in the state. We need BM to start talking to the Big 12 and telling them the positives about us. The heck with UCONN, Cincy, Memphis,UCF. Once we are in the B12 we would be something that State and Ole Miss would be looking in their rear view mirrors at.

How good is C-USA baseball this year?

Just think about this for a moment.

WKU has wins over So Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky and they may not even make the conference tournament.

Charlotte who likely won't make the tournament has wins over Georgia, Wake Forest,

MTSU, worst team in the league, has series wins over Indiana (Best in Big 10), So Alabama (best in Sunbelt), and wins over Vandy and Wake Forest.

Even UAB has a win over Bama this year, and they may not make the tournament.

Other marquee wins for C-USA this year:

ODU (12-12 in CUSA): wins over NC State and UVA

FAU two wins at MSU, win over No. 1 Miami.
