Southern Miss Athletics Announces Safety Measures for 2021 Home Baseball Season



HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Athletic Department announced today the implementation of safety measures for baseball fan attendance at home games for the 2021 season in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In compliance with the current executive order issued by Governor Tate Reeves, restrictions will set attendance capacity at 25% at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.

At this time, only season ticket holders will be permitted to attend games this season, and all allotted season tickets have been sold out. No single game tickets will be available. Should restrictions ease, the seating capacity may increase. In the meantime, fans can place deposits to join the baseball season ticket holder wait list. Deposits are $50 per seat and are refundable if no seats become available.

Other safety measures at Pete Taylor Park for the 2021 baseball season include:

• Social distancing while in the grandstands, concourses, concession stand lines, and restroom lines.
• Mandatory face coverings at all times while in the park. Fans must wear face coverings to enter the park, while in transit throughout the park, and while seated. Masks may be removed for eating and drinking.
• Digital/contactless ticketing will be the preferred ticket delivery method, unless physical tickets are requested.
• Hand sanitizer stations will be located at entrances and throughout the ballpark.
• Increased cashless only concession and merchandise stands; limited cash stands will still be available.

Also of note, original 2020 seat locations will be held for each season ticket holder for the 2022 season.

All 2021 home games will be made available through CUSA.TV or ESPN+.

Really hyping up the basketball team this season. We couldn't watch them practice and all we had to go on was what USM was feeding us. I hope next season, starting with football we will be able to watch again and actually give opinions on what I Can See!!!

t is that time of year. Time to get the grills and coolers ready for the Rowdy Roost. Time get those Golden Eagles baseball clothes out of the closet. It is time to dust those stadium seats off. It is finally here. Opening weekend of NCAA Baseball is back!

Ladner:
I want us to build off the way we played in 2nd half
Was impressed with the way UNT made plays when they had to. We want our team to learn that.
Missed FT down the stretch is something we have to overcome.
We are a much better team than last year. We have better players and they are young and really starting to bloom.
We have to get Draine going.
If we were in the East, we would have a chance to finish 4th or 5th. It is our fault we didn't win enough games in the West.
I think you may see us full court press more, you may see more of the team that started the 2nd half against UNT play more.
We haven't always played great this season, but the effort has been there all season.

Hardy:
I want us to play with effort, together, and aggressive.
If we give the game our all, we have a chance.
FAU will press and like to steal and get open baskets.
Our slow starts have come from not knowing each other and not playing together as much.

This is an extremely rare day. The entire states of New Mexico, Oklahoma, TEXAS(all 254 counties!), most of LA, MS, all of AR is under a winter storm WARNING. The last time there was weather like this was December 1989 when the high temperature in Vicksburg/Jackson was 9 with a low of 4. The wind chill was -30 below. There is a prediction of up to a foot of snow in parts of MS. Man what a week ahead!

Coach Berry:
Northwestern State opening date will be Saturday at 12 (doubleheader). Due to travel.
We are ready to play someone other than ourselves.
NWS is well coached and it has been a few years since playing them.

Boyd: Game 3
Shep has been throwing pretty well, but not pushing him to come back. Will come out of bullpen. How he bounces back will determine when he starts.
Walker will start season off with a week long suspension for team rule violation.
Not settled on DH role yet. Fischer, Wing, Ewing has looked really good at that spot.
Not really settled on lineup yet, will continue to evaluate that.
