While getting in my car this morning in Overland Park, Kansas, a really pretty young lady said, “Did you go to Southern Miss”. I nodded yes and she said, “I did too.” She had noticed my Southern Miss tag. Turned out that Megan is the daughter of Steve Barnes, Eustachy’s top assistant. You never know where you’ll run into a Golden Eagle.

I've finally had a chance to relax and rewatch the game. Here are some thoughts:

1. Coach Hall said they were playing checkers and not chess because this offense is not complicated. It isn't. However, the biggest one reason this is working is that Brownlee is back to 100%. His ability to beat any DB this team has left to play is what keeps defenses honest. Without him, none of this would work and there would be 8 or 9 in the box every play.

2. I would really like to see Demo play some more RB next season. His ability to follow blockers and accelerate is impressive.

3. The defense was tremendous against LA Tech. They had trouble stopping the run, but then made adjustments and really played well.
Latham and Maples are anchors in the middle. Quewon has been playing at another level here lately.

4. Briggs has the shanks right now. He will get that figured out. Hopefully, being home will be just what he needs. Special Teams played really well in the win.

5. These last 2 games have done more for this team than anything that could have happened. They are playing with a fire we have not seen in sometime. Hall has not lost this team, in fact, they are more together than they have ever been. A tip of the hat to everyone involved for not letting this thing run off the tracks.

That is probably the last time that Southern Miss will play in Ruston as a member of C-USA and what a way to leave town. No QB and yet the Eagles rush and pass for more yards than the Bulldogs. Thanksgiving meals will taste much better this week for USM fans and players.

P.S. It has been a few years since Footbal, WBB, and MBB all won on the same weekend.

I moved back to Hattiesburg for a job outside of education this month. Friday night, I was at Sidelines. I will admit that I was not paying attention to the Southern Miss game on the tv…

Sometime during the 3rd quarter, I happen to look up at one of the tvs while taking a break from Silver Strike Bowling to see that my Golden Eagles were ahead in Ruston!

Although the win was in Ruston, I feel as if this was my “welcome back” to Hattiesburg…

I thought UC San Diego would be an easy win but they are 4 - 0 with wins over George Washington and California. With Southern Miss playing UNC Wilmington and Montana 2-1 in this tournament would be really great. 3 - 0 would be super great and 0 - 3 would be a disaster.

I know many of you already know but they put my mom in the ICU yesterday for internal bleeding. She is on a ventilator. She is better today and if all goes well they will get her off the ventilator soon. Please say a prayer for her. Been a heck of a year at the Hinton house.

Listening to Jay Ladner post game comments Sunday it sounded like the MBB team would be driving to Montana for 3 games. 31 hours per Google Maps! Is that correct?!?

.....and I think rightfully so. I have to say however, this is one of the best defenses we've had in awhile. According to the Our Lads site we'll have 8 returning starters and some talented Fr. in reserve. It's hard rate a defense on stats when the team is so bad offensively. On the field way too much. I guess this is a glimmer of hope for next year. I throw the Bama game out because the score 40-50 on everyone.

Don't know how to describe this one. Superback, Hallball, it can be called a few things. Hats off to players and staff and they have a golden opportunity to win hosting FIU as well.
