Pitching was as good as expected. Ethridge has the chance to have a big season and Stuart showed that he can spot start if needed throwing 3 innings. Only run scored by UNA was unearned.

USM pushed across some runs early and late to really put this game away. However, leaving 11 on base will not make Coach Berry Happy. Good teams will make you pay when you keep them in the game.

Defense was good especially the infield except for McGillis's boot at 2nd. Lynch, Dickerson are so smooth with the flove.

Was nice to see Sargent start off better than last season. He just missed a HR and has seemed to make adjustments with off-speed stuff.

Lynch will be the most important peice to the team this season in the #3 spot. If he has as good of a season as he did the 2nd half of last season, this team will go a long way. That will mean Dickerson and Sargent and having good years to protect Lynch's at bats.

Dickerson is coming into his own this season. Solid at the plate and defensively he is one of the best SS in C-USA.

Montenegro is fun to watch. He still likes swinging at the high heat, but he is just one of those hustle guys who will do anything. He will even lay down the bunt late in the game, and it was a beauty.

Excited to see Riggins pitch tomorrow. Yes, this was a good win, but UNA is 1-36 against OOC opponents since last season so let's just remember that.

All in all a good game. Too many left on base tonight and hopefully they fix that tomorrow.

Do they sell tickets for the game tomorrow at the gate.

Nothing like opening day of baseball season at The Pete. We get our first look at Spring Practice for the football team. We also get another basketball game at RGC. Well, in memory of Meatloaf, "2 out of 3 ain't bad."

Yeah, it is probably in the wrong order, but this is probably what the fielding looks like for game 1 Friday.

So yes C-USA does have a buyout that is supposedly 3 years of the money C-USA gives each school. It fluctuates but even at most if it is 500,000 that would mean that USM would owe 1.5 million and that would be covered by what the Sun Belt pays out to each school with some left over. Not sure what the amount the 3 schools would get from the Sunblet, but it has been said in the neighborhood of 2 million this year and more going forward. So USM will still benefit from leaving C-USA early. There is no penalty for leaving early and the conference can't stop it.

Will the Miami game be one of those?

It is hard to imagine any team worse than USM but UTSA might be it. Let's put 1,000 people in the stands, This game may decide who finishes last in the tough C-USA.

He is really excited about this season. He hasn't got to play in front of a full house at The Pete because of Covid. He can't wait to see the Pete packed out this weekend.
He did work on his pitching this offseason. He was able to work with the San Diego organization and got hitting and pitching lessons from players and coaches. He is so thankful for this because it allows him to spend more time with his dad who is working through most of the season.
Talked about the leadership of this team and how everyone has played so many games together. He feels this team can get to the World Series.
I asked him who he thought would be the the "big head" in right field this year. He said probably Lynch, but he wanted to throw his name in the hat to get his "big head" out there next year.

Does Ladner deserve another year? It took Doc 5 years to get 20 wins and postseason play. Does Ladner get the same opportunity?

Is the program so bad that something must be done now? The wins have gone down every season and Ladner’s best season came with Doc's players leftover from that Senior laiden team.

What would be perfect is if the 6 teams leaving for AAC could do so now and their would be no Judy Worlds conference and she would be out of a job. Would not put it pass her to keep any payout from exiting teams for herself.
