Southern Miss continues to win without key cogs producing at a high level…

Before Bama game but let’s call that an anomaly hopefully as last week batting at ODU was better

Southern Miss continues to win without key cogs producing at a high level … If you looked at some of USM’s offensive numbers and told me this team would have 19 wins and a winning record in the Sun Belt Conference, I might’ve thought you were a little off your rocker. The Golden Eagles have just two sluggers in their lineup hitting over .300, and mainstays such as Carson Paetow, Reece Ewing and Christopher Sargent are hitting .237 or worse with limited power production. That will need to change the second half of the season if USM wants to do some big things in the NCAA tourney, but it’s still impressive this team is racking up wins with that situation unfolding. All eyes also are on pitcher Matt Adams, who left a game over the weekend with an injury

D1 Baseball RPIs - Sunbelt up to #5 and the American at #11 ouch

Some items standing out from Conference RPI … There are some surprises in the latest conference RPI, and some not so surprising aspects. For instance, the SEC and ACC leading the way is not a surprise, while the Pac-12 being ahead of the Big 12 is a slight surprise. The Sun Belt, as expected, has vaulted to the No. 5 conference in terms of RPI, while the Big West, which was well into the double digits last season, is sitting at No. 8. That’s a monster improvement for that league. The Colonial sits inside the Top 10, while the American, which at one point was a top five-to-six RPI league, is all the way down to 11 behind the CAA and Missouri Valley. That doesn’t bode well for the league getting another bid outside of league-leading East Carolina

D1 Baseball Chat 4/10 - Funbelt and Southern Miss specific Q&A

4/10 D1 Baseball Chat Funbelt and Southern Miss specific Q&A

TheFanatic: Does the FunBelt still have a punchers chance at bringing 3-4 teams into the post season?
Kendall Rogers: I think three teams is pretty much a given for the Sun Belt right now with an option for a fourth or fifth team. I feel pretty good about Southern Miss, ODU and Coastal Carolina right now. I think a fourth team will emerge the second half of the season well.

Connor: Is USM in a good spot for the rest of the season? Feels like ODU & CCU have tough upcoming schedules.
Kendall Rogers: Connor — I think USM is in a pretty good spot right now. The Golden Eagles have a top 30 RPI with a 7-4 mark vs. RPI Top 50 teams. Those are pretty good metrics for a bubble team. As you said, the remaining schedule is pretty favorable. I think we will look back and view that Dallas Baptist series sweep as a very big and important result.

GeoDawg: Great content as always this week! How close is Southern Miss to cracking the top 25 after two strong showings in away series? After starting the conference slow, they’ve steadily been climbing the rankings and Tanner Hall seems back to usual form.
Aaron Fitt: I think Southern Miss was Team No. 26 this week — our debate ultimately came down to TCU vs. USM for the last spot. Knocking on the door! A little worried about the Matt Adams injury, but I do like that the Southern Miss offense is coming alive.

It's official.................

BIG day Tuesday!!!

For two reasons. First, the Baseball game with Alabama, and Second, I will have my first annual football Spring prediction for wins and losses. If you remember, last year, I predicted an 8-4 win-loss season. The injury to Keyes threw things off. I do believe if Lowe had started the season, we would have had 8 wins. That being said, there will be no excuses on my part. So get set for BIG Tuesday.

Teams that aced week 8

Southern Miss

The Golden Eagles went on the road and took two of three from Old Dominion, a team that had entered the weekend 7-2 in the Sun Belt. USM has won three straight conference series to improve to 7-5 in the Sun Belt, to go along with its marquee nonconference series sweep of Dallas Baptist.
