Stop using oil and use what? When the technology is realistic and affordable, people will use it. You people that think we aren't conducting an insane amount of research for alternative energy sources are either naive, uneducated, or both. Here's one example that came out today of where we've spent BILLIONS on single project.

People certainly would use affordable energy, but why would the companies market it? i don't see them replaceing oil with something with a lesser profit margin. What if there is an alternative but it is so prevalent that it can't be made to turn a profit? Maybe i'm being naive.

Here's my two cents. I don't think anybody likes it when there is an oil spill, especially so close to home. I surely didn't read all of these post, but the first handfull I did read made no mention of the true reason we have no other fuel source in America, and will not for the near or distance future, even more so with the current admin. TAXES. You can't tax wind, you can't tax the sun, and you can't tax fuel cells. A good chunk of every gallon of fuel sold in America is the taxes. That is why the current admin. isn't going to make a big deal about oil. In fact they want more drilling. Double the taxes. Tax it out of the ground, in the refineries and in the tanks. What needs to be done to keep this from happening more often are numerous shut off valves at the Ocean Floor and throughout the pipelines. This leak is occurring along the pipeline to the Mainland. That is where the regulation needs to take place regarding the Oil Cos. Arguing about needing less oil is like pissing in the wind. This country is over debting as it is, and by lessening the need for oil/gasoline would ruin this country with the decrease in tax revenue. It amazes me that governments are putting "sin taxes" on items (cigs etc.) to keep people from using those items, but when taxes are raised on other things to raise tax revenue the govt. is suprised that less money is coming in due to less consumption of those items. It would definitely be a greener country if America were less dependent on Oil because trees would be growing where businesses and neighborhoods used to be.

Fever is dead on....and to call HIM a Lib'ral (ie,anyone that disagrees with any righty on here about anything)is perhaps the funniest/incredible/hilarious/tactless/underwhelming/inexplicable post I have ever read on here!

Speakin' of "typical".....we have an oil rig disater that kills 11 people...threatens the livelihood of everyone on the Coast from Galveston to Tampa...and all you can do is defend the status quo and continue to say
"Drill Baby Drill"..

I would say remarkable...but actually it ain't..

I thought yall called yourselves progressives now.

Oh...knock it off.
The classic definition of profit is income minus expenses.
The oil company executives' exorbitant salaries and benefits are expenses.
Don't try this game.
They can work the numbers to the point that they have zero profit.

Let's not let a companies financial reports get in the way of you socialist rant. My only question is why do you hate rich people?

Of course Fever is right about the enviromental consequences and the need to develope new sources of energy. But to say nothing is being done to try and accomplish this is just liberal propaganda. Thousands, if not millions, of people are working on this goal worldwide. Most of the countries in the world do not even have oil to drill.

Maybe Fever will use his magic wand and correct these problems for us today.

Even electric cars will have the problem of what to do with all of those batteries when they no longer hold a charge. Yes, they can be recycled but so can 90% of all the other garbage dumped in our oceans forests, and on our roadsides.

We need to get out of Iraq and let the Iraqis solve their own problems. Oil production is down 50% in Iraq since we showed up. Then we need to eliminate federal taxes on gas and put an end to regulations preventing development of alternative fuels and put an end to energy company subsidies. All of this would lower gas/oil prices.

Because Obama, Pelosi, and Reid tell him to. The irony is that they're all rich too. Made that way by sheep like him.

I am also very sad for the lost workers and the victims families!

Go Eagles!
Yeah, because our entire national oil supply came from that one rig.

If I said "nothing is being done," I was wrong. You'll have to point that one out to me.

Also...a brief tour of You Tube shows lots of folks are working on finding alternative methods of pushing a vehicle down the road at 70 mph.

The magic wand is to establish a NASA style program (privately owned or guvmint owned) that will organize the effort and push it through to completion.

And if we keep putting it off until the final product can be produced "today," we will never start.

I wonder why you would attempt to lump battery recycling in the same category as household trash. Was there a point in there, or were you just throwing something out? Batteries are already given special treatment...so...we would not be starting from scratch here.

Don't bother. EF is too much of a coward to answer questions. All he does is spout nonsense, make personal attacks, and ignore the facts that prove his wrong time after time.

The Yunie paragraph.
You have posted that same sentence for 10 years every time you are embarrassed by your posts.
My guess is that you have it permanently attached to your clip board.

Raptor, develop the alternative energy source, make it economical and competetive. And then I'm all for it. Until then we have to work with what we have which is oil, coal, and gas. We can't stick our head in a hole and ruin our economy with thousands of lost jobs and put ourselves at the mercy or our enemies while we wait for something else.

worm, it's amazing. I went from being a good lil conservative boy to a ragin' liberal nutjob when I one day realized people like Sarah Palin were destroying an entire American political ideology.

Disagree with that dumb beauty queen and research a few facts, and agree with Theodore Roosevelt a lot, and suddenly you're a pinko commie. I figured out how it works.

I love when people claim to be "conservative", yet side with every liberal policy out out there. I bet you're also for abortion and the government takeover of healthcare, as well. How "conservative" of you.

Yep...no personal attack there.
If you are not a coward, share with us your real name.
Tell us where you work.

Absolutely no one has suggested that.
HOWEVER
Reliance on oil put us at the mercy of our enemies whereas the new energy source would put us back on top.

I'm William Loney. You can call me Bill.

Fever you keep repeating this new energy source will put us back on top. As far as I can tell, every person on planet earth knows a new fantastic energy source that will replace coal, oil, and natural gas will be the most fantastic discovery ever made. Yet you seem convinced no one is working towards this discovery.

Just because it hasn't been discovered yet doesn't mean no one is working feverishly on this project. I'm guessing hundreds of billions if not a trillion dollars annually goes toward this research world wide.

Nope. I'm convinced we are doing enough because the politicians don't want the oil companies mad at them. We're dragging our feet so the oil company execs can pay for their toys.

You're right, though. Thousands of people are trying. But it is unfocused and scattered.

Here's something else to keep in mind. There is another huge industry working behind the scenes to slow it down, the electric power industry. Remember, when a device is created that will propel a vehicle down an highway at 70 mph, that device can sit in your back yard and power your house. Two or three can power a small shopping center. That's then end of the biggest ripoff industry in the country.

And another personal attack.
Yunie, your help is not needed here. You add nothing but slime to the discussion. Why not just let the grownups have a discussion?

The only one adding personal attacks is you. Either respond to the articles and facts that have been posted to prove you wrong (yet again), or retreat to another thread in which you can intellectually compete. That's kind of tough for you though, isn't it?

I think it's pretty obvious that EF is calling for a sort of energy Manhattan Project, not scattered bits of research spread across government agencies and myriad corporations.

Big difference.
