Now that it's clear that the AAU is not going to be a big money (Power 5/6) conference, what about a merger between CUSA and AAU? Before you dismiss the idea, think of the major TV markets that would be involved spread over 13 states in the Northeast, Midwest, mid-Atlantic states, South and Southwest. Instantly better TV deal for all concerned. Too big, you say. Not really. Remember the proposed Mountain West merger. Here we would split into East and West divisions, 13 teams in each division. Every team plays all 12 teams in its division in football and the division winners play for the title. Eliminates two meaningless non-conference games. If you want to keep a couple of non-conference games to still schedule the Nebraskas, LSUs, Alabamas of the world, you still rotate two off each year. From our perspective, basketball competition would improve. You would probably play everyone in your division once each year and have a rotation with the other division. What do you think?
