I do not know how the financing works between the various schools and programs as USM. It may be that it is not possible to use tuition funds for the football program. If that is true, this may be around it.
Let’s take twenty businesses around Hattiesburg. Let representatives go to them and say “if you donate 100-200, or whatever to our football program we will guarantee at least 10-20 or whatever student customers to purchase items from your store”. They may also like to discount their items for the program. We would announce to all students that a new program (Like fund drive for eagles) is starting and we need volunteers. What is in it for the students? Well, each time they make a purchase at one of the businesses they are to keep their receipts. In turn, they would present them to the finance office and have the amount of the purchase deducted from their total tuition cost. After the money from the starting 10-20 businesses is exhausted then 10-20 new ones would be approached.
I know this may be a bit bazaar but we should sit down and think of ways to raise money for the football program or maybe someone could refine this idea. No reason not to use it for basketball as well. We are going to have to do it ourselves.
