Release from Southern Miss SID:
Southern Miss Football – New for 2018
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – With football season a mere 15 days away, Southern Miss has a number of new changes in store for the 2018 season to impact the fan experience.
The biggest change at M.M. Roberts Stadium will be a new sound system. Southern Miss is in the process of installing a brand new, state of the art sound system in time for the 2018 season opener.
“Last season was challenging, as the game day atmosphere was negatively impacted due to the Sound System not operating anywhere near full capacity. We’re excited for how this new system will enhance the game day experience for our fans,” said Stephen Pugh, Senior Associate AD for External Operations.
The new system should allow for increased volume to all areas of the stadium as well as increased clarity from the Video Board, PA Announcer, and Referee mics.
The most noticeable change will probably be on the field as the team will be wearing adidas uniforms. Southern Miss entered into a partnership with adidas to outfit the Golden Eagles in every sport. It marks the first time that Southern Miss has had a comprehensive apparel deal in its history. For more information regarding the switch to adidas, click here.
There will also be a number of aesthetic enhancements to M.M. Roberts stadium for 2018, including pressure washing of the bleachers and the replacement of faded banners on the East and West sides of the stadium. Southern Miss has also worked with their concessionaire, Aramark, on some new additions for 2018. Chick-fil-A will be served in stands on the East and West side of the stadium. Aramark is also bringing on Mississippi favorite, Polk’s Meats to The Rock and will serve hot dogs and sausage dogs. There will also be a new food truck on the west concourse serving specialty items.
Spirit Park will also look a little different for the 2018 season. Junior Eagle Fun Land, which was located on Pride Field in 2016 and in front of the Payne Center in 2017 will move to Spirit Park for the 2018 season. The area, which features inflatable bounce houses for kids, costs $5 for unlimited play and is free to Seymour Sidekicks Kids Club members. In addition, Junior Eagle Fun Land will feature a themed area each game. The themed area will offer a different unique addition each week. Certain games will include a Touch-a-Truck display, Carnival, Military Displays, Race Car displays, and more.
The team runout will see a re-imagining for the 2018 season. The runout will feature more video, music, pyrotechnics, and engagement with the crowd. The break between the third and fourth quarter will also look a little different. The student section and band will help lead the crowd in developing a new tradition to bring energy and excitement to The Rock, going into the fourth quarter.
Last season, the University of Southern Mississippi announced new safety measures, including a clear bag policy and an updated golf cart policy. Fans can also continue to take advantage of the Season ticket holder referral program. For each successful referral, the original season ticket holder will receive their choice of a $20 future credit on their ticket account up to $200 or a $20 voucher for concessions in M.M. Roberts Stadium up to $100. On the tenth successful referral the fan will receive a personalized Southern Miss football jersey. On the 15th successful referral, the fan will receive an all-inclusive trip to a road game. To participate, fans should contact the Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK or fill out the form by clicking this link.
