LSU sophomore defensive tackle Mickey Johnson told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune Saturday via text he will transfer to another school for the 2015 season.

Johnson, a four-star recruit from St. Paul's in Covington, said he has not been given a release but expects to get one when he graduates in August. He said he will likely not participate in spring practice.

"(Defensive line) Coach Brick (Haley) said it wouldn't be a problem, but nothing officially until I graduate in August," Johnson said about getting the release. "That way I can be eligible immediately."

Johnson will have one season of eligibility left as a graduate transfer. He said he is considering Kansas State and South Florida as possible destinations.

In two seasons, Johnson played seven games and recorded six tackles. He played two games in 2014 in a reserve role with three tackles.

Johnson was a Class 5A all-state selection at St. Paul's and a member of the Times-Picayune Blue Chip list with 50 tackles and 11 sacks as a senior.
